Description

Harper's BAZAAR is hiring a Commerce Editor who knows digital fashion and can turn trends, cultural moments and products that readers want into shopping stories for the site, social, newsletters and newer platforms.

The role suits a strong writer and curator who can spot what drives engagement and revenue and make it feel distinctly BAZAAR.

The brand is part of a media company with 30 well-known titles, including Cosmopolitan, Delish, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Men's Health and Road & Track, reaching nearly 130 million people monthly. Its teams pair journalism and storytelling with technology, data and commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch and write up to 5 fashion commerce stories each week, mixing shopping news, trend pieces, sales, recurring series and key cultural and retail moments.
  • Build curated product selections that reflect BAZAAR's editorial perspective and its readers.
  • Create commerce content built for digital and social first, including user-generated content native to each platform and social stories centred on shopping.
  • Help assemble market edits for Editor Shops and other digital storefronts.
  • Track runway news, celebrity style, social chatter, new labels, viral items and the wider retail landscape to find strong story leads.
  • Update existing BAZAAR articles so they work for affiliate links, without lowering editorial standards.
  • Apply commerce, SEO, affiliate and audience growth practices to improve how content performs.
  • Review affiliate results by story, product, category and retailer, and use them to shape future coverage.
  • Support promotion of commerce content across the site, social and newsletters, including content, links, visuals and packaging.
  • Share commerce insights and performance reports in presentations and team meetings when needed.
  • Work with the Senior Commerce Content Lead to manage and edit work from freelancers and the central commerce team, checking it meets BAZAAR's editorial, commerce and brand standards.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years in fashion, commerce, editorial, digital media or a closely related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing, with a clear editorial voice and a good eye for fashion storytelling.
  • Broad knowledge of fashion, shopping, beauty, retail, celebrity style and digital fashion.
  • Solid grasp of affiliate commerce, SEO, social media and audience growth.
  • Proven skill at spotting products, trends and moments that readers want to buy, save and share.
  • Comfortable using data and performance figures to judge content and guide editorial choices.
  • Strong curation skills, with the judgment to weigh commercial goals against editorial quality.
  • Well organised and detail-minded, able to juggle several assignments and deadlines at speed.
  • Collaborative and proactive, comfortable working with editors, freelancers, commerce teams and other partners.
  • Experience with affiliate platforms, content management systems, social publishing tools or analytics platforms is a bonus.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for Harper's BAZAAR and a clear understanding of its authority, audience and point of view.

Conditions

The role is based in New York, NY and requires working from the office four days a week.

The base salary is $68,340 - $73,500 USD, the company's good-faith estimate for this location at posting. Final pay depends on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, training, certifications, education, location and market conditions.

The role is covered by the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Benefits

  • Work alongside experienced professionals across media, advertising, tech, fashion, lifestyle and publishing.
  • Access to training programmes, hands-on workshops and industry events.
  • Hybrid working that supports balance between career and personal life.
  • Membership of Employee Resource Groups that help build a welcoming, inclusive workplace.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance from day one, within a broader benefits package.
  • Competitive financial benefits, including a 401(k) plan with a generous company match.
