JOB SUMMARY
An Editor works semi-independently with team direction in a healthcare marketing agency environment with assigned brand teams to enforce quality control across core editorial functions (editing, fact checking, proofreading, and correction checks) while meeting deadlines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Proofreading
Maintains version control, ensures project file integrity, and verifies that requested changes have been accurately incorporated across rounds of project routingCopy Editing
Ensures correct spelling, grammatical accuracy, adherence to AMA/brand style, and consistency across brand deliverables.
Fact Checking
Verifies data and factual information using provided references, annotations, and general science and math competency.
Communication and Collaboration
Works effectively in a team environment to build and foster collaborative atmosphere and ensure goals are being met while maintaining quality control.
Brand Stewardship
Develops thorough understanding of assigned accounts and product categories, and accommodates multiple assignments effectively.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Proofreading
Reviews files word-for-word vs an approved backup, ensuring each project faithfully follows the indicated source material and reflects specified revisions.
Provides clear, concise, and thorough comments through markups with a digital routing tool.
Ensures consistency within documents and continuity across versions of documents.
Performs correction check/line slugs for most intervening rounds.
Uses technologic tools to replace the above manual reviews as appropriate
Copy Editing
Performs initial edits/cold reads of print and digital tactics, as well as internal agency
materials at the discretion of supervisor.
Reviews materials for sense, spelling, grammar, brand style, readability, consistency, accuracy, and context within each job and all related jobs, while providing clear, concise, and thorough comments.
Keeps current on industry changes in AMA style, spelling, and medical terminology.
Fact Checking
Verifies data and factual information using provided references, annotations, and general science and math competency.
Flags permission requirements for copyrighted content.
Brand Stewardship
Acts as primary/lead editor on assigned brand(s) (while supporting other brands as needed).
Serves as lead or co-lead editor during significant brand events, including product launches and label updates, which may necessitate work outside of base scheduled hours or on weekends depending on project deadlines.
Understands/becomes proficient on the specifics of assigned account(s).
Attends status, hot sheet, and kick-off meetings for assigned brands as needed.
Generates and promptly updates style guide for assigned brands, and uses own knowledge and experience to confirm brand style decisions.
Builds and maintains a command of brand data and content.
Helps enforce OPDP/regulatory guidelines.
Helps to resolve content issues using reference materials and collaboration with copywriter.
Supports copywriters and account team, when needed, in researching medical references and article retrieval.
Communication and Collaboration
Ensures daily communication with internal team members to update them on all aspects of projects.
Confirms timelines and alerts team members and supervisor of difficult-to-meet deadlines, offering alternate solutions when possible.
Establishes and communicates workload priorities to manager and second shift or other supporting staff.
Assists departmental and network editorial colleagues as needed when bandwidth allows.
Administration
Maintains timely and detail-oriented approach to administrative duties.
Alerts manager when backup coverage is needed.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree required - English, communications, journalism, biology, or related field
Preferred Advanced degree in related field may be considered in lieu of required experience
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
1-3+ years editorial experience in a healthcare communications or related industry
Command of the English language, including strong spelling, writing, punctuation, and grammar skills.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, remote meeting video tools, and text comparison software (preferred).
Experience with digital documents and routing systems preferred.
General math competency.
Familiarity with latest edition of AMA guidelines and Merriam-Webster.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Familiarity with FDA pharmaceutical advertising regulations.
Strong interpersonal skills: Develops positive, professional relationships within the department and across disciplines.
Strong time management skills: Ability to plan ahead, work efficiently, and prioritize projects effectively to complete all work in an accurate and timely manner based on team-directed timelines.
Communication skills: Expresses ideas clearly and effectively.
Problem-solving skills: Recognizes problems and provides practical solutions to supervisor and/or team members that demonstrate common sense and editorial practicality; exercises good evaluative and decision-making skills with appropriate follow-up.

$55,000 to $80,000
Omnicom’s policy requires employees to work in the office for a minimum of three days a week, unless additional in-office days are directed by their agency or manager. Our objective is to increase this requirement over time, and many of our agencies as well as Omnicom’s corporate group already require five days of in-office attendance.
