The company is a global licensed sports merchandise business that designs, manufactures and sells officially licensed apparel, jerseys, headwear and collectibles for leagues, teams and events, with more than 900 e-commerce sites and reach into over 180 countries.
This senior vice president role leads the software engineering organization behind the fan-facing ecommerce front end, a group of about 180 people across engineering and business intelligence, working through senior engineering leaders.
It is a hands-on executive position that requires current technical judgment on modern front-end and distributed systems, the experience to lead large teams, and the presence to take charge during major production incidents.
Responsibilities
Work with product, marketing, merchandising and operations to improve existing technology and find new opportunities that support business growth.
Explain complex technical issues in clear business terms to senior engineers and executives.
Act as the main executive contact during critical incidents, coordinating teams, explaining business impact and recovery options, and making sure root causes are fixed.
Build and grow a senior engineering leadership team, owning hiring, performance, succession and delivery across the roughly 180-person organization.
Hire and retain strong engineering leaders and individual contributors, setting a high bar for technical skill and team capability.
Roll out agile team structures and modern delivery practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, feature flags and progressive rollout with rollback, across the organization.
Set the technical direction and quality standard for the front-end stack, covering rendering strategy, CDN caching, accessibility and browser performance, and link Core Web Vitals and real-user data to conversion and customer experience.
Advance marketing platforms, including CRM, customer data and real-time activation, with strong data quality and governance, working with Data Science on personalization.
Own architecture and operations for high-volume cloud production services, designing microservices boundaries, API contracts, async messaging, caching, data consistency and idempotency for reliability and scale.
Set service-level objectives, error budgets, observability and on-call ownership to protect the fan experience during peak demand.
Lead adoption of AI coding agents and assistants with training, review, testing and data controls, measuring gains in lead time and quality rather than adoption alone.
Move the organization toward an AI-native way of working, using data and AI to improve marketing effectiveness, engagement and growth.
Work with Data Science on ML-driven personalization, using controlled experiments to lift conversion, engagement and retention.
Pursue platform opportunities such as applied AI for search and recommendations, checkout and payments, and developer self-service.
Own hiring and succession planning for senior engineering leaders so the organization has depth at scale.
Lead executive response to time-critical production issues, giving real-time updates on business impact and recovery options.
Drive cloud reliability through load testing, autoscaling and resilience work, quantifying peak throughput, tail latency, availability and recovery gains.
Build security into delivery, improve cloud unit costs, and oversee engineering quality, technical debt and investment trade-offs.
Requirements
You have built and grown an internal engineering organization of about 180 people or more through senior leaders, with clear examples of engineering leaders and individual contributors you recruited, developed and retained. Advisory or oversight work alone does not count.
You have deep, current technical judgment on modern front-end stacks such as React and TypeScript or comparable, including server and client rendering, CDN caching, accessibility, browser performance, and native, web and hybrid app trade-offs, and you have owned the stack behind a very large consumer experience.
You have hands-on experience running high-volume cloud production services and can judge clean design in microservices, including API contracts, async messaging, caching, data consistency and idempotency, and explain latency, resilience and cost trade-offs.
You have scaled agile teams and modern delivery practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, feature flags and progressive rollout with rollback, and you have deployed AI coding agents with training, review, testing and data controls, showing gains in lead time and quality.
You have served as the C-suite contact for time-critical production incidents, directed cross-team response, communicated business impact and recovery options, and driven root-cause fixes while keeping the trust of senior engineers and executives.
You have worked well with product, marketing, merchandising and operations, turning business goals into engineering strategy and measurable fan-facing results.
Preferred but strongly valued: experience leading engineering for modern marketing platforms, including CRM and customer data platforms, and working with Data Science on ML-driven personalization, with measured gains in conversion, engagement and retention through rigorous experimentation.
