The company is hiring a VP-level Senior Applications Development Engineer, an individual contributor role, for the hedge fund billing technology team, which works on the calculation platform behind billing for institutional hedge fund clients.
The platform calculates tiered fees and handles high volumes of transactions across several business lines, so it needs very low latency, strict transactional integrity (ACID), high availability and clean, resilient code.
The role is mostly hands-on: writing code, designing systems, tuning queries, writing automated tests and deploying through CI/CD. You will work with lead architects, product analysts and engineering peers on full-stack solutions in modern Java and Angular.
Responsibilities
Write clean, modular, efficient and documented code for distributed Core Java and Spring Boot microservices and Angular single-page applications.
Build and maintain fee algorithms, calculation logic and multi-asset billing workflows that run with low latency and high concurrency.
Design, build and use secure, reliable REST APIs and event-driven messaging pipelines on Kafka, RabbitMQ or JMS.
Modernize legacy code, containerize services with Docker and OpenShift or Kubernetes, and upgrade frameworks to current architecture standards.
Investigate complex runtime problems such as thread contention, memory leaks and distributed transaction bottlenecks, and deliver lasting fixes.
Write and tune complex SQL, stored procedures, table schemas and indexes on MSSQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL.
Keep financial data accurate, auditable and transactionally consistent across high-volume batch and real-time processing, with solid error handling.
Profile databases, analyze execution plans and tune queries to remove batch bottlenecks and cut processing time.
Write unit, integration and component tests with JUnit and Mockito to keep test coverage high.
Meet the company's SonarQube standards, take part in peer code reviews, and help prevent security vulnerabilities.
Build, maintain and fix CI/CD pipelines in Bitbucket, Jenkins and Harness, along with build scripts and container deployment manifests.
Work with SRE and DevOps teams on Level 3 production issues, analyzing logs and metrics in Splunk, Grafana and Prometheus to find and fix root causes.
Join sprint planning, estimation, daily standups and backlog grooming.
Turn user stories and functional requirements into technical designs, class diagrams and sequence flows.
Share knowledge, pair-program on hard tasks and work with squad members to hit sprint commitments.
Follow the secure development lifecycle, fix SAST and DAST findings, and keep data encryption and privacy controls in place.
Make sure all deliverables follow the company's software engineering governance, change management and risk control rules.
Requirements
Six to 10+ years of hands-on software development experience building enterprise distributed systems and transactional applications.
Deep hands-on experience with Core Java (Java 11, 17 or 21), JVM memory management, multithreading and concurrency, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Batch and Hibernate/JPA.
Hands-on experience building single-page applications with modern Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, HTML5 and CSS/SCSS.
Strong hands-on SQL and tuning experience on MSSQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL, including complex joins, CTEs, indexing and execution plans.
Practical experience building event-driven producers and consumers with Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ or JMS.
Working knowledge of Docker, Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes, Linux shell scripting and Git/Bitbucket.
Experience with Maven or Gradle, Jenkins, Harness, JUnit, Mockito and SonarQube.
Preferred: background in hedge fund operations, fund administration, institutional billing, asset management or capital markets.
Preferred: familiarity with caching frameworks such as Redis or Hazelcast, and observability tools such as Splunk, ELK, Grafana or Prometheus.
Preferred: experience with AWS, GCP or private cloud environments.
Strong problem solver who enjoys writing maintainable code and tackling hard algorithmic and architectural problems.
Has taken technical tasks independently from design through production deployment.
Works well in a team and communicates technical ideas clearly in writing and speech.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
Plus: relevant certifications in Java/Spring, Kubernetes or Cloud Practitioner.
