Description

The company is building advanced animation systems and runtime character performance in Unreal Engine 5 for a BioShock game, and this senior role sits on the development team.

You will build scalable technical solutions and animation workflows that support immersive gameplay, working alongside a group of game developers.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and configure animation assets and systems directly in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Build, upkeep, and improve complex Animation Blueprints and runtime procedural systems such as cloth, IK, and secondary dynamics.
  • Tune and troubleshoot Motion Matching and advanced locomotion so movement feels fluid and responsive.
  • Make sure animation assets, runtime systems, and editor frameworks run smoothly and use memory efficiently.
  • Find and fix technical animation problems that span Maya and the game engine.
  • Work with animation and engineering leads to refine authoring pipelines, document tools and processes, and mentor other team members on best practices.
  • Work closely with design, art, engineering, animation, and audio teams, staying current on new technology and finding ways around development obstacles to deliver a AAA-quality experience.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional technical animation experience in video game development, including at least one shipped AAA title.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of UE5 animation tools, including Animation Blueprints, Control Rigs, Montages, Notifies, and the Rewind Debugger.
  • Thorough understanding of runtime procedural animation technologies such as Motion Matching, Motion Warping, Control Rigs, Full-Body IK, Retargeting, Ragdoll, and Cloth.
  • Solid knowledge of human anatomy and kinesiology, including how skeletal mechanics shape deformation rigs and believable performance.
  • Clear grasp of traditional animation principles and how to apply them under real-time gameplay limits.
  • Reliable and positive, looking for ways to connect your work with other disciplines and support a healthy team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You can explain complex ideas clearly to varied audiences and give hard feedback with empathy and professionalism.
  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Persistent, self-motivated, and proactive.
  • Able to keep quality and effectiveness up under pressure, ambiguity, and shifting priorities.
  • An active listener who builds trust across all levels of an organization, understands differing views, and handles complexity with tact and emotional intelligence.
  • Open to feedback, eager to learn new skills, and able to make quick, quality revisions when new insights or constraints appear.
  • Takes ownership of tasks, drives work forward independently, and keeps a sharp eye for detail and organization.
  • Committed to the company's core values and to a positive, respectful culture.

Conditions

Candidates located in Quebec must have professional proficiency in both French and English. English is required to work with the U.S. teams and international partners and to handle specialized technical documentation, including reading, writing, and speaking.

The company will only contact prospective employees through 2K.com email accounts and never uses instant messaging apps or personal email for outreach or interviews.
