The team is part of TD IT Architecture, which sets the bank's technology strategy, architecture framework, policies, principles and standards for how solutions are designed, built and rolled out. Architects in this area typically own some mix of solution and application architecture, infrastructure environment architecture, technical integration architecture, data strategy and models, security, and enterprise architecture.
The role sits on a high-impact architecture team that shapes customer engagement across onboarding, customer management and advice. The work centres on designing scalable, compliant, customer-centric solutions for end-to-end onboarding, a unified customer view, and digital and advisor-led advice. There is room to grow across all of these areas.
The position is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver scalable, compliant, customer-centric solutions for onboarding journeys, a unified customer view, and digital and branch advice experiences.
Help modernize how customers find, apply for and manage products across channels, and give branch advisors integrated tools and insights.
Drive headless, API-first and event-driven architectures that integrate systems and channels while meeting regulatory and data governance requirements.
Work across databases, applications, client tiers, software layering, and build, test and deploy strategies to design the overall system, including applications, infrastructure and middleware, and guide how different teams build its parts.
Put applications and data at the centre of the customer experience, on a sound base of infrastructure and platforms.
Assess technology stacks, set principles and key constraints for solution components, and guide the team on security, scalability and impact assessments.
Keep upgrading the platform and build resilient solutions that reduce technology debt, on both server-side and user-side features.
Lead code reviews, build prototypes to test approaches, and use configuration management and build automation to deploy code and give developers proof points and fixes.
Design tests that keep software working, and support issue analysis, fixes during test phases, and production issue resolution.
Set service-level objectives and use the decision rights of the Functional Solution Architect role.
Focus on reliability, scalability and architecture for complex, large-scale systems.
Define observability standards so production systems can be measured against known conditions and failures can be anticipated.
Act as subject matter expert when working with risk, compliance and audit groups on architecture and tooling risks.
Lead or support enterprise initiatives, advising on risk in significant and complex situations.
Track projects and products against technology domain architecture and development standards, and run ongoing reviews of work in progress.
Spot architectural gaps and emerging industry trends, and recommend improvements that cut technology debt.
Map processes and sub-processes that connect business problems to technology solutions.
Track code changes through control systems.
Identify and manage risks, escalate high-risk or non-standard activity, and keep up with regulatory changes.
Mentor and train junior colleagues, share knowledge, and may act as Chapter Lead.
Build working relationships with internal and external business partners and stakeholders, and keep others informed of progress.
Represent your business area and the bank as a brand ambassador, internally and externally.
Requirements
An undergraduate degree or a technical certificate is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
10+ years of relevant experience building across a range of platforms.
Demonstrated experience integrating technical tools in a complex environment.
Demonstrated depth and breadth in modern architecture, including public cloud, AKS/Kubernetes, microservices, UI frameworks, event-driven and streaming architectures, caching, and relational and NoSQL databases.
Demonstrated expertise in Domain-Driven Design, including domain decomposition, bounded contexts, business capability modeling, and designing scalable APIs, events and reusable domain services.
Strong collaboration, communication and client-facing skills.
Big-picture thinking, with the ability to anticipate architectural gaps and spot emerging trends, backed by business acumen and deep technical knowledge of the bank's applications, programming languages, industry practices, bank standards, infrastructure and architecture.
Ability to understand business needs and offer practical architecture and technology solutions that serve the long-term vision.
Ability to work autonomously on high-profile, complex or high-risk projects with significant organizational impact.
Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, pair programming and/or Test-Driven Development is an asset, including writing unit, integration and functional tests.
Familiarity with Salesforce architecture, data model, integration patterns and customer engagement capabilities is desirable.
Breadth across the end-to-end customer journey and depth in onboarding, customer management and advice architectures, with the ability to shape enterprise-wide solutions for shopping and buying and branch advice across digital and assisted channels.
