Staff Software Engineer

Description

The company is an international job technology business with over 50 million site visits each month, focused on delivering strong user experiences and personalisation for job seekers and business subscribers.

This is a senior technologist role within a specific domain or technology Chapter. You will keep contributing to the code base while setting technical direction, overseeing architecture and keeping both new and existing technology at a high technical standard.

You will hold technical ownership across three Engineering Teams: Talent Profile, Company Profile and Salary Products. You will work with Engineering Managers to align technical quality and delivery with domain-specific goals, lead technical initiatives that bring teams together, and act as the escalation point for technical issues.

The role also covers engineering practices and development across the wider Chapter. You will act as a mentor and thought leader and help grow knowledge sharing across the wider professional community.

Responsibilities

• Lead domain-level technical initiatives, solving complex problems while staying hands-on in the codebase and producing both detailed technical work and high-level architecture.
• Work with engineering and product leaders to reduce domain complexity and evolve the ecosystem.
• Drive technical alignment and engineering maturity across the domain and the organisation through the Chapter structure.
• Mentor and lead the engineering community to improve delivery speed, quality and performance.
• Keep strengthening architectural, engineering and security health, and build engineering culture and innovation across the domain and portfolio, working with the Engineering Director, Product Director, Principal Engineer, Architecture and Engineering Managers.

Requirements

• Staff-level engineering background with deep.NET and React expertise, and a proven record of delivering large-scale, production-grade systems that use A/B testing.
• Experience designing and running large-scale distributed systems on AWS, including secure development, data protection, compliance and enterprise architecture.
• Strong modern frontend skills: component architecture, design systems, responsive design, accessibility (WCAG) and client-side state management.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise or SaaS web platforms built on microservices and micro-frontends, covering performance (Core Web Vitals, rendering, code splitting, CDN), API integration (REST, OpenAI, Bedrock) and service scalability and resilience.
• Expertise in designing LLM-powered web systems (state, caching, guardrails, observability), with strong communication skills for mentoring engineers and setting technical direction across teams.
