Senior Writer

Description

Join the company's development team as a Senior Writer and help set the direction of the game's story. You will work with writers and designers to create story arcs, sharp dialogue and characters that fit the game's core themes and bring its world to life.

Responsibilities

• Take narrative work from first draft to finished text, keeping tone and themes consistent across the whole game.
• Write scripts for every narrative tier: the main story path, optional side content and systemic dialogue.
• Create character biographies, sample pages and casting sides for voice performers.
• Put narrative content and scripts into the engine yourself, using Unreal Engine and the company's in-house narrative tools.
• Join play sessions, give useful feedback on story and design, and help improve writing pipelines and workflows.
• Work with design, art, engineering, animation and audio teams to deliver the creative vision, solve development problems and keep up with new technology, aiming for a top-quality AAA game.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional writing experience for games, TV, film, or theatre.
• 2-3 published works of fiction, with video game credits strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with narrative game tools and Unreal Engine, or the ability to pick them up quickly.
• Able to work through ambiguity, spot unresolved story problems and take ownership of solving them.
• A portfolio of strong storytelling and quick, constructive responses to critique and notes.
• Writing samples, preferably 2-3, are required to interview.
• A positive, reliable team player who looks for ways to connect work across disciplines and supports a healthy team.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining complex ideas to varied audiences and giving hard feedback with empathy and professionalism.
• Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams.
• Self-driven, persistent and proactive.
• Keeps quality and effectiveness high under pressure, ambiguity and shifting priorities.
• A good listener who builds trust at every level of the organization, understands differing views and handles complexity with tact and emotional intelligence.

Conditions

Candidates located in Quebec need professional proficiency in French and English.

English is required to work with the US teams and international partners and to read, write and communicate about specialized technical documentation.
