Senior Writer

Description

You will join the development team at the company to help set the narrative direction of the game, working alongside writers and designers to build story arcs, dialogue and characters that fit the franchise's world and its core themes.

Responsibilities

• Take narrative content from first idea to finished work, keeping tone and thematic depth consistent across the whole game.
• Write scripts for every narrative layer: critical path story, optional side content and systemic dialogue.
• Write character bios, sample pages and casting sides for voice actors.
• Put narrative content and scripts into the game using Unreal Engine and the company's own narrative tools.
• Play the game regularly, give useful feedback on story and design, and help improve writing pipelines and workflows.
• Work closely with design, art, engineering, animation and audio teams to turn creative goals into reality.
• Keep up with new technology and find ways to solve development problems in order to deliver a high-quality AAA game.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional writing experience for games, television, film or theatre.
• 2-3 published works of fiction, with video game credits strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with narrative game tools and Unreal Engine, or the willingness and ability to learn them quickly.
• Ability to work through ambiguity, spot unresolved story problems and take ownership of finding clear solutions.
• A portfolio of strong storytelling and the ability to respond quickly and constructively to critique.
• Writing samples, preferably 2-3, are required to interview for this role.
• A reliable, positive team member who looks for chances to connect work across disciplines and helps keep the team healthy and supportive.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining complex ideas to varied audiences and giving hard feedback with empathy and professionalism.
• Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams with strong communication.
