Description

The company employs more than 83,000 people across five continents, around 7,500 of them in the UK, working in defence, space, aerospace and digital security.

The UK unit that hires for this role supplies electronic warfare, radar and uncrewed aerial systems to the armed forces and exports them abroad.

You will join a team building next generation EW, radar or UAS solutions, covering part of the engineering needed to deliver a product that meets the customer's needs.

The role suits an engineer who understands the full systems engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Show that the solution meets the operational needs the customer has approved.
  • Capture and manage requirements in DOORS.
  • Assemble solution elements in a controlled, logical order to test design, behaviour, interfaces and performance against requirements.
  • Write the specifications and engineering plans used to build the solution.
  • Support and carry out IVVQ activities.
  • Run trade-off studies, modelling and simulation.
  • Produce systems engineering and IVVQ documentation.
  • You may contribute to systems architecture or systems engineering management.

Requirements

  • Hold at least a bachelor's degree (BEng or BSc) in a numerate, scientific or engineering subject, or equivalent higher education, training and experience.
  • Understand systems engineering processes and practices.
  • Have proven experience managing requirements with tools such as DOORS or Polarion.
  • Have proven experience working in or leading a team through IVVQ of a solution or product.
  • Know the engineering lifecycle in detail, from concept and requirements through system and subsystem design, integration, test strategy, acceptance and design update.
  • Be able to combine different technologies and integrate and verify them into one system that meets the customer's requirements.
  • Build collaborative ways of working with many stakeholders and disciplines toward a system-centric approach.
  • Communicate clearly in speech and writing, explaining complex technical problems to any audience.
  • Work well in a multidisciplinary team with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Desirable: experience with model based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools.
  • Desirable: experience with architecture frameworks such as MODAF, DODAF or TOGAF.
  • Desirable: product line engineering experience.
  • Desirable: background in electronic warfare, radar or telecommunications.

Conditions

The role is based in Crawley and works in a hybrid model.

Security clearance (SC) is required. Holding it already is an advantage, but if you do not, you must obtain and keep SC before you start.

To be eligible for full SC you generally need five years of UK residence. In some cases three years in the last five may be accepted, with extra overseas checks.

Equal opportunities apply to pay and working conditions for everyone.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus and development-focused targets.
  • A strong pension contribution and private medical insurance.
  • Relocation support where needed.
  • Training, development and career support, including help with academic qualifications and professional memberships.
  • Mentoring and coaching from experienced engineers.
  • Ability to move into technical expertise or leadership, or into other domains, products, countries or more complex solutions across the group.
  • Annual leave buying or selling, a cycle to work scheme, employee discounts, a paid volunteering day and a share scheme.
