Description

This is an existing vacancy within the organization and is open to new applications.

As part of the application process, Artificial Intelligence will be used in the hiring process for this role.

The role is hybrid. The successful candidate must be in the office at least three days per week.

The Data Engineering organization is building a unified Vehicle Data Platform that moves data and configuration between vehicle ECUs and the cloud. The team is the only one at the company that ships software on every compute module. Software is delivered as libraries, apps, and services on Android, Linux, and QNX. The work spans four areas: the control plane, which fetches configuration from the cloud and applies it across the vehicle's ECUs; the data plane, which collects, processes, and forwards vehicle data to cloud storage; the SDK, which application teams use to build on the platform; and unified logging, which manages logs across the vehicle software stack.

The team is hiring a Senior Software Developer to own features and components across these areas. You will carry work from design through release and field support, write and review code, and guide junior engineers. You will work with application, platform, cloud, cybersecurity, and privacy teams to ship software on production ECUs with tight limits on CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain the on-vehicle control plane components that fetch cloud configuration and apply it across ECUs.
  • Design, build, and maintain the on-vehicle data plane components that collect, process, and forward vehicle data to cloud storage, covering both streaming and file-based transfer.
  • Build and maintain the logging software that manages logs across the vehicle software stack.
  • Develop SDK libraries, apps, and services, and write the API documentation and examples application teams use to adopt them.
  • Deliver the team's software on Android, Linux, and QNX across every compute module the company uses.
  • Make data egress and configuration delivery work over unreliable connectivity, and cut the CPU and memory footprint on the target ECU.
  • Integrate with cloud services such as Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress.
  • Add the instrumentation needed to monitor the fleet, diagnose production issues, and fix them at the source.
  • Write unit and integration tests, review code, and meet the release criteria in the software development process.
  • Support application teams during SDK integration and respond to issues found in the field.
  • Work with DevOps, cloud, cybersecurity, and privacy teams to roll out new software and configuration.
  • Contribute to open source projects by reporting issues, improving documentation, and submitting patches.
  • Mentor junior engineers and encourage good engineering practices across the team.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computing, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on development experience in C or C++, or in Java or Kotlin for Android.
  • Experience building software for Linux, Android, and/or QNX.
  • Experience shipping software on production ECUs or other devices with limited CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, configuration management, and data pipelines.
  • Experience with at least one of: control plane or device management software, data collection and transfer pipelines, logging or telemetry software, or SDKs and libraries used by other teams.
  • Experience designing APIs for SDKs or libraries, including versioning and adoption support.
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity controls and data protection processes.
  • Understanding of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate-based device identity.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests and working with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience troubleshooting production environments.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Experience delivering software to production and supporting it in the field.
  • Preferred: familiarity with vehicle communication protocols such as UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, and XCP.
  • Preferred: familiarity with AUTOSAR standards.
  • Preferred: familiarity with OpenTelemetry, protobuf, gRPC, or similar observability and data plane technologies.
  • Preferred: contributions to Fluent Bit or other data-intensive open source projects.
  • Preferred: familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their device management services, such as IoT Hub, IoT Core, Pub/Sub, or equivalent.
  • Preferred: experience working with Firestore.
  • Preferred: experience designing driver- or HMI-initiated capture flows, such as create and upload data.
  • Preferred: automotive domain knowledge, including ECU architectures, SoC platforms, diagnostics, and failure and crash analysis.
