The Order Fulfillment Software Factory builds the company's end-to-end software across two value streams: Source to Deliver, which covers purchasing, supplier management, supply chain and logistics, and Order to Deliver, which covers selling, configuring, scheduling and delivering vehicles to dealers and customers.
The factory works toward SaaS First, Cloud First and AI First priorities. It partners with GPSC Business Area IT, Sales and Marketing Business IT, and the company's peer software engineering, mainframe and SAP factories to ship consistent, modern solutions quickly.
This is a Software Engineering Manager role for someone who still writes code. You will lead roughly 6, 12 engineers, possibly including a technical lead or first-line lead, who own a product area such as Vehicle Order Management, Order Scheduling or Global Logistics.
You act as the technical centre of the team: you scope hard problems, design systems and ship alongside engineers, and you make agentic AI coding the normal way the team builds, tests and runs software.
It is a player-coach role with about 30, 40% hands-on time, covering production code, code reviews, system design, prototypes and daily work with AI coding agents. You set technical direction and answer for delivery, quality and growth.
Responsibilities
Translate factory strategy into your team's direction, goals and operating plans, then assign people and work and reset priorities when business needs shift.
Track the team's KPIs for delivery, quality, reliability and business results, and show how the team moves the factory's goals.
Lead large cross-department projects involving GPSC, dealers and suppliers, from strategy through rollout.
Connect technical initiatives to key business objectives and start a technology roadmap for your area with Product Management.
Manage competing priorities, sensitive matters and conflicts within the team and across teams. Win over stakeholders who doubt new approaches.
Own workforce planning and the operational and financial decisions for your area, including spending on cloud and AI tools.
Serve as technical lead on the team's workstream: write, review and merge production code for critical features, hard defects and proofs of concept.
Design systems and set architecture for team projects, covering services, APIs, event-driven integrations, data models and SaaS and ERP integrations. Take part in factory-wide architecture reviews.
Help engineers scope complex problems and find practical solutions. Be the go-to person on technology, cross-team interfaces and company rules and procedures.
Bring forward new technology that changes how the business operates, improving product experience, quality and time to market.
Take part in on-call, lead incident response and postmortems, and keep delivery on schedule without sacrificing quality.
Put AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot agent mode and Cursor into daily work for planning, building, testing, reviewing, refactoring, migrations, documentation and operations.
Maintain the team's agent setup: repository instruction and context files, reusable prompts and skills, MCP and other tool links to internal systems, and CI pipelines that run agents for pull-request review, test generation and dependency upgrades.
Define guardrails for agent-written code: test coverage and evaluation checks, human review standards, sandboxing and permissions, handling of secrets and data, and provenance checks.
Use agents to speed up modernization of legacy order and supply chain systems, such as building test harnesses for legacy code, running automated migrations and documenting systems that have no documentation.
Measure impact through cycle time, change-failure rate, defect escape rate and developer experience. Share what works with peer teams and help set factory-wide practices.
Hire engineers and decide between internal and external staffing to build the right mix of skills.
Hold regular one-on-ones and career conversations, plan growth for each engineer and give work that suits their strengths.
Run performance management: goals, feedback, calibration and handling underperformance, applying company policy consistently and fairly.
Teach engineers to direct, verify and take ownership of AI-generated work, and keep a high bar for everything merged.
Lead change as the team adopts agentic development, model the company's behaviors and respect individual and diverse perspectives.
Requirements
A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, Information Security, Cybersecurity or a related field, plus 6, 9 years of relevant experience; or 10, 12 years of full-time relevant experience.

At least 3 years designing and architecting new and existing systems for reliability and scale.
Current hands-on coding in at least one of Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, C or Kotlin. You will be asked to code during the interview process.
At least 1 year of daily hands-on use of AI coding assistants or agents on real development work, with specific examples of what worked, what did not and why.
Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP, with APIs and microservices, and with modern CI/CD, code review and source control practices.
Preferred: at least 3 years of engineering management, or experience leading a team that included other leads.
Preferred: domain experience in order management, supply chain, procurement, logistics, dealer or retail systems, or e-commerce fulfillment.
Preferred: experience integrating with SaaS and ERP platforms such as SAP or Salesforce, and with event streaming and messaging such as Kafka.
