Description

The Recoveries team sits in the Repayments area and builds the platform that works out the most effective way to recover money from charged-off loans, while keeping the customer experience in mind.

The team works in two ways: through external recovery partners, and through customer-facing experiences the company builds itself, which let customers settle what they owe in flexible ways.

The platform covers loan placement and recall, partner integrations, payments and remittances, reconciliation, bankruptcy workflows, and recovery experiences for customers.

Engineers work alongside product, risk, analytics, operations, finance, legal and compliance. Because the systems directly affect recovery outcomes, correctness, reliability and regulatory compliance matter a great deal.

In this Staff Software Engineer role you will help set the technical direction as the team scales decisioning, expands internationally, strengthens data integrity and reconciliation, and builds the next generation of recovery products.

Responsibilities

  • Set a technical strategy for your team that spans a year, and connect it to critical projects with real business impact.
  • Shape how the Recoveries platform evolves by leading cross-team initiatives that improve recovery strategies, enable flexible customer experiences, and make financial and partner integrations more reliable and scalable.
  • Work with product, design and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle so that the technical approach stays sustainable and risks and trade-offs are understood and managed.
  • Multiply your team's impact by defining and promoting technical solutions and operating processes.
  • Own your team's operations and availability by putting in place monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, tests and alerts that support day-to-day upkeep and on-call work.
  • Build a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and promote them beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
  • Grow people on your team through feedback, guidance and by setting an example.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, building and launching large-scale backend systems using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
  • Experience designing and running correctness-critical batch, asynchronous or data-processing systems, including scheduled workflows, backfills, reconciliation, observability and handling failures well.
  • Experience designing solutions across complex systems and organizational boundaries, and being comfortable making changes outside your own area, including in backend services and customer-facing applications, to deliver end-to-end results.
  • Experience delivering major features or system components, or retiring existing functionality, through a written technical and execution plan. You write high-quality code that others find easy to understand and use.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, moving between low-level language details and the architecture of large systems.
  • A track record of gathering feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers and acting on it over time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication that helps you work effectively with the global engineering team.
