Description

The role is Senior Software Engineer, based at 811 Excellence Dr, Bentonville, AR 72716.

The work covers requirements, design, coding, testing and maintenance of software components and applications, from gathering customer and business needs through to support of the running product.

Responsibilities

  • Measure the gaps between what customers and the business expect and what the current product and solutions deliver, including updates and changes (per iteration if the team works in Agile).
  • Sort requirements into their applicable types.
  • Spot solution risks and issues during requirements gathering, alert the right stakeholders and suggest fixes.
  • Help write user stories for components, applications, or complex features.
  • Help design solutions so that processes and applications work together for specific components and modules.
  • Weigh trade-offs in component design against business requirements.
  • Help turn high-level designs into detailed designs with mock screens, pseudocode and functional logic for specific modules and components.
  • Write and configure lean code for whole components or applications, making sure they meet business, technical and non-functional needs, including low maintenance, high availability and high scalability.
  • Help choose languages, development standards and tools for coding and configuration.
  • Learn the basics of new languages and frameworks that will be useful for future work.
  • Write scripts that automate repetitive and routine work in CI/CD, testing or other processes.
  • Build telemetry features on your own where needed.
  • Make sure security policy requirements are applied to components and applications while code is written and configured.
  • Turn customer requirements into test objectives, then identify and write test cases for each component or module.
  • Run test cases to find errors and defects across the whole component, using suitable testing tools for each type of test.
  • Track and analyse defects in components or modules, and run regression tests after every code change to confirm fixes.
  • Review defects from past engineering work to prevent similar ones from returning.
  • Find and resolve performance and availability bottlenecks in applications.
  • Carry out complex maintenance on applications independently.
  • Track and analyse suitable metrics to assess application performance.
  • Carry out corrective, adaptive and perfective maintenance, along with re-engineering.
  • Analyse application logs, maintenance data and performance data, and report your findings.
  • Assess change requests and decide which are valid and feasible.

Requirements

  • Either a Master's degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering or a related area, plus 1 year of software engineering or related experience.
  • Or a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of those same fields, plus 3 years of software engineering or related experience.
  • Experience building efficient applications in object-oriented languages such as Java.
  • Experience building user interface screens with scripting languages such as JavaScript and PHP.
  • Experience deploying applications with build automation tools such as Maven and node-gyp.
  • Experience using Log4j for error logging and debugging.
  • Experience designing and building REST API web services in Java and NodeJS, handling response data in XML and JSON.
  • Experience writing tests and checking code quality with JUnit.
  • Experience designing tables, stored procedures and SQL queries for database CRUD operations.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and with working on business requirements.
  • Experience with source control tools such as Git and GitLab to keep code in sync with the repository.
  • Experience with continuous delivery pipeline tools such as Docker, Jenkins and GitHub for automated builds and deployments.
  • Experience with alerting and log monitoring using Splunk.
