Senior Software Engineer (Rust) - remote in the EU

Description

The team builds cloud-native, bare-metal orchestration platforms for AI neo-cloud environments, and the company's work is built on open-source projects, with contributions to them a major part of the job.

Engineers work in a T-shaped model: each person has deep expertise in one primary area and working fluency in neighboring systems, which supports design reviews, cross-domain code reviews and on-call coverage.

The control plane is written mainly in Rust and Go, uses Kubernetes operators and follows an OpenTelemetry-first approach to operations.

The role centers on control planes for high-density, high-throughput infrastructure that runs AI training and inference, and it requires a good grasp of software architecture alongside datacenter networking and DPU architectures.

Experience with automated bare-metal provisioning and lifecycle management is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain production-grade control plane microservices, custom Kubernetes operators and reliable reconciliation engines in Rust and Go.
• Write functional and non-functional requirements, architecture specs, system sequence diagrams and clean gRPC/Protobuf and REST API schemas.
• Build integration modules for modern network operating systems such as SONiC, NVUE and Cumulus, along with DPU hardware platforms.
• Add end-to-end OpenTelemetry traces and metrics to services, and carry out structured root-cause analysis across distributed systems written in several languages.
• Take part in strictly reviewed pull requests across Rust, Go and SQL, and keep test coverage high through mock-driven testing.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering in cloud-native platforms or systems programming.
• Deep Rust skills, including Tokio, Tonic, Axum and sqlx, plus working Go skills as a secondary language.
• Solid understanding of async concurrency, lock-free patterns, distributed state handling and disciplined mock-driven testing.
• Experience designing gRPC/Protobuf contracts with tonic and prost, and evolving schemas with zero-copy serialization and compile-time type generation.
• Experience writing custom Kubernetes controllers and operators with kube-rs, built around CRD-driven reconciliation loops.
• Test-driven design habits, with testable code that uses mock interfaces for external dependencies.
• A record of writing clear architecture specs and taking part in constructive design reviews across functions.
• Desired: strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills.
• Desired: BGP, MP-BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, L3VNI, route targets and route server design, with hands-on work on SONiC, Cumulus Linux and NVUE, including a first-class NVUE client.
• Desired: knowledge of NVIDIA DOCA, Host-Based Networking (HBN), BlueField DPU architectures and the DPF operator model (BFB, DPUSet and DPUNode CRDs).
• Desired: understanding of InfiniBand fabrics, NVLink and NMX-M partitioning, and RoCEv2.
• Desired: advanced knowledge of Linux netlink, network namespaces, routing tables, and DHCP/DNS service implementations.
• Desired: familiarity with CNI plugins such as Calico and Cilium, with OVS and DPDK as a plus.
• Desired: expertise in PXE/iPXE, UEFI, Secure Boot, measured boot and TPM attestation.
• Desired: proficiency with Redfish, IPMI and BMC abstractions across Dell, Lenovo and NVIDIA reference hardware.
• Desired: in-depth knowledge of boot chains, systemd, initramfs and BIOS configuration matrices.
• Desired: practical experience with PKI, X.509, TLS, SPIFFE/SVID, Vault, KMS, Keycloak (OAuth2/JWT) and RBAC.
• Desired: experience with KubeVirt and KVM.
• Desired: experience writing custom controllers with controller-runtime, in addition to kube-rs.
• Desired: a record of taking part in or maintaining open-source systems projects.
