Senior Software Engineer (Python + Cloud + Data)

Description

The role sits in a client's data science and product team, working closely with the business stakeholders.

You will take internal apps first prototyped in Lovable and turn them into secure production services on Google Cloud, and build data feeds that link business systems to the company's canonical data layer.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role with a varied set of projects.

Responsibilities

• Turn internal apps prototyped in Lovable into secure, production-grade services on Cloud Run.
• Build backends and middle layers that include authentication, audit trails and secure document storage.
• Build and run data feeds that connect business systems, such as Salesforce and third-party data providers, to the canonical data layer, dashboards and planning tools such as Pigment and Anaplan.
• Automate recurring reporting and analysis, including scheduled data centralisation and quarterly metrics with manual overlays.
• Take responsibility for the security of everything you ship, as there is no separate InfoSec function.
• Review AI Skills used by business teams from a technical standpoint.
• Write READMEs, runbooks and architecture notes as you work so others can maintain the systems.
• Explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, raise technical risks and sequencing concerns with the sponsor, and turn down scope that belongs to other teams.

Requirements

• Around 4, 7 years of hands-on commercial software engineering experience.
• Strong production Python skills for services and data pipelines, including testing and CI/CD.
• In-depth cloud experience with compute, managed databases, serverless and IAM. GCP is preferred, but AWS or Azure experience also counts.
• Full-stack range, strongest on APIs and the middle layer, and able to adjust a React/TypeScript front end without a designer.
• Data engineering experience covering ingestion from APIs, databases and file extracts, orchestration (Airflow preferred), and schema design for SQL and, ideally, NoSQL databases.
• Proven record of taking prototypes or AI-generated code to production and owning a service end to end, including deployment, monitoring and documentation.
• Hands-on experience securing your own services: authentication, least-privilege IAM, secrets handling, input validation, audit logging, dependency hygiene, and secure document storage and retention.
• Ability to work autonomously: you handle unclear briefs without hand-holding, learn wide, undocumented tables and unfamiliar systems quickly, and anticipate user needs.
• Nice to have: experience building integrations with Salesforce or planning platforms such as Pigment and Anaplan.
• Nice to have: knowledge of canonical or dimensional data modelling, and interest in contributing to a company-wide data strategy.
• Nice to have: exposure to LLM workflows and prompt evaluation.
• Nice to have: experience with Lovable or Supabase.
