Description

The company is hiring a senior backend engineer for its Account Sharing team, which sits within the Consumer Squad.

The team is building brand-new consumer products in shared finances, including international joint accounts and kid accounts.

The goal is to help families, couples, friends and flatmates in different countries manage money together. Most current options only work inside one country, while these products are meant to work globally.

This is a product-focused engineering role. You help shape products from the start, working with product managers, designers, data analysts and user researchers to turn unclear ideas into scalable financial products used by millions of customers worldwide.

Your work will influence how shared finances develop at the company, and the systems you build will need to scale globally, handle compliance and regulation, and support millions of customers.

The company is a global technology business that moves and manages money across borders for people and businesses, and it is building a new network for the world's money.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable backend systems for fast-growing consumer products.
  • Build international joint accounts for users spread across several countries.
  • Expand kid accounts into more markets.
  • Create shared money experiences that work across borders.
  • Build features for shared spending, sending and receiving money, and account customization.
  • Take part in customer discovery and product iteration.
  • Scale infrastructure and make it more reliable across several markets.
  • Take greenfield financial products from concept through to live production.
  • You may also work on other parts of the platform, such as send and receive money flows, spend experiences, authorization systems, financial crime systems and shared account infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Track record of creating greenfield products starting from nothing.
  • Background in international consumer products.
  • Experience in payments, financial systems or compliance-heavy settings.
  • Experience building systems for global scale.
  • Some knowledge of event-driven design and messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Background building financial products that customers use directly.
  • Experience with API-first development.
  • Ability to build scalable distributed systems that deliver customer products used by millions of users.
  • Proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python or Go.
  • Strong experience designing asynchronous, reliable and scalable systems in microservice architectures.
  • Comfort in greenfield work where requirements change fast and ambiguity is normal.
  • A strong product mindset and enjoyment of working closely with product managers, designers, analysts and researchers to shape solutions, not only build them.
  • Care about the customer experience and how technical choices affect end users.
  • Comfort joining architecture discussions, questioning assumptions and influencing technical and product direction.
  • Produce tidy, well-tested code that stays maintainable, with long-term scale and dependability in mind.
  • Clear communicator who can explain complex technical ideas and work well across teams.
  • Able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • The company knows few candidates meet every item. If you meet some of them and want to learn the rest, you are encouraged to apply.

Conditions

Customer research, behavioral data and direct feedback decide priorities, and the team iterates quickly on what it learns.

The team is cross-functional, and engineers are expected to shape product direction and strategy, not just deliver tickets.

Work is greenfield and fast-moving, with requirements that change often. Engineers take ownership and lead discussions with engineering, product, design and research.

Teams are autonomous, so everyone contributes ideas, owns their work and helps set priorities.

The role is based in London and is hybrid.

The company seeks diverse, inclusive teams and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.

Benefits

  • Starting salary of £111,000 to £145,000, plus RSUs.
  • Standard company benefits package.
