Senior Engineering Lead - Identities and Attributes

Description

The company is a global technology company that moves and manages money across borders, and this role leads one of the core teams in its Identity Risk Platform squad.

The role covers the core identity layer that risk, onboarding and servicing decisions depend on, and that supports the company's global risk platforms and customer experience.

You will set the technical direction for the identity and attribute domains and their APIs, which are high-throughput, low-latency services used by the platform and by all product and risk teams.

You will also lead and grow a multi-level engineering team, and set the standards and practices that the wider Identity Risk Platform will follow.

The role is a senior leadership position with a high-stakes, cross-functional scope.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of the identity and attribute domains, including API contracts, data schemas, risk-aware identity data, attribute acquisition and lifecycle, and new onboarding and product experiences.
• Own schemas and data contracts for people, businesses, roles and attributes, and drive data quality, lineage and auditability so identity data is trustworthy, explainable and compliant throughout its lifecycle.
• Set and enforce technical standards for data lineage, data quality and auditability across the Identity Risk Platform, so it meets strict regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Act as the main technical interface between product squads, Risk and FinCrime, and verification providers, keeping API contracts clean and reusable and maintaining a single view of identity.
• Manage and mentor the current engineering team at IC2 to IC4 levels, define clear roles and efficient processes, build a high-performance culture, and lead recruitment to grow the team.
• Champion the architectural vision with Product, FinCrime and other engineering leads, making sure technical choices support both business speed and security.
• Build the platform for high availability, low latency and large scale, and manage the operational health of this critical real-time risk service against its SLAs and SLOs.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with object-oriented languages, particularly Java, and with REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems and CI/CD pipelines. You will complete technical interviews to demonstrate this knowledge.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring software engineers.
• A strong product and customer mindset, with experience building customer-facing products.
• Experience building distributed, highly scalable systems and microservices architectures.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working effectively with designers, product managers, analysts and data scientists in a collaborative setting.
• Expert knowledge of schema design, indexing and query optimisation for ACID-compliant transactional data, with experience using partitioning and read replicas to scale.
• Experience handling unstructured data at scale, including sharding and optimising aggregation pipelines for fast reads and writes and flexible schema changes.
• Experience using Redis or Valkey for high-performance distributed caching.
