Description

The company builds the navigation and map experience used by drivers on its rideshare platform, designed for the fast, safety-critical moments of a ride rather than everyday commuting.

The team is looking for a senior product designer to own core Mapping experiences and champion a user-first approach across product teams.

You will take features from early problem framing through design quality and launch, working with designers, researchers, marketers and product managers, with safety as a central priority.

The work covers the full ride, including driver navigation and rider pickup, and asks whether pickups feel safe and easy, whether drivers can follow the route and reach the correct side of the road, and how to handle unexpected traffic or closures.

The role suits someone comfortable in a fast-paced environment that keeps changing.

Responsibilities

  • Own key user-facing Mapping surfaces end to end, from defining the problem through launch and iteration, in this order of focus: core navigation (turn-by-turn guidance, zoom and motion, and how drivers orient themselves on the road); real-time feedback and voice AI, including how drivers report road conditions and emerging voice and AI-assisted features; map styling and 3D views, including the map's visual language and map assets; and internal map tooling that helps mapping and operations teams keep the map accurate.
  • Reach across organizational boundaries to work with cross-functional leaders, reconcile conflicting feedback, and build agreement on complex design decisions.
  • Build reusable design-system components, tools and map assets that improve the platform and every feature built on the map.
  • Benchmark the company's map and navigation experiences against leading map products and use that standard to raise shipped quality.
  • Work closely with engineering and content design through build, edge cases and launch so the shipped product matches the design.
  • Frame complex, loosely defined problems with product and engineering leads and align teams with competing priorities.
  • Give critique that improves others' work, explain complex decisions clearly to broad audiences including leadership, and help shape how the team works.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, shipped mobile experiences.
  • Experience designing maps, navigation or location-based products.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills and the ability to prototype at high fidelity to explore and communicate ideas.
  • An experimental mindset with AI-native prototyping and tools, whether code-based, AI-assisted or both.
  • Ability to apply UX standards (accessibility, safety, reliability, usability and the company Product Language) confidently to your work.
  • A proactive approach to cross-team collaboration, comfort working without clear direction, and openness to giving and receiving feedback at all levels.
  • A record of systems-level work, such as design-system components, reusable patterns, tooling or assets adopted beyond a single feature.
  • Close partnership with product, engineering, data science and content design, including owning details through implementation.
  • A high quality bar, informed by deep familiarity with the best map and navigation products.
  • Ability to communicate complex, ambiguous work clearly to broad groups and senior stakeholders.
  • Motion design and 3D experience, especially for maps, animated components and real-time interfaces.
  • Voice or conversational UI design experience.
  • Experience with driver, logistics, in-vehicle or other high-stakes, glanceable interfaces.
  • Experience designing internal tools for operations or data teams.
