Description

The team hires software engineers from a range of disciplines to build technology that enriches community life, collaborating with product, data science, analytics and operations on code that lets the company iterate quickly while serving passengers and drivers.

The Applied AI team is hiring a backend engineer for its AI Entries team. The role builds the core infrastructure that connects the company to emerging AI ecosystems and devices, and designs the APIs and orchestration layers that let third-party agents and multimodal interfaces interact with the company, so riders can be reached wherever they are.

Responsibilities

  • Set engineering best practices and patterns, and raise the skill level of the team.
  • Lead high-impact projects and design new solutions that give users the best experience.
  • Design scalable systems for large, complex features, from first idea through launch.
  • Mentor engineers with technical guidance and support for their growth.
  • Write code that is well tested, readable and easy to maintain.
  • Review code to protect quality and share knowledge across the team.
  • Join the team's on-call rotation to find, triage, debug and resolve issues across applications and platforms.
  • Explain the trade-offs behind your decisions.
  • Manage priorities, deadlines and deliverables.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in computer engineering, computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of software engineering or production infrastructure experience in industry.
  • Experience with Python and Go.
  • Experience with a cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure), distributed systems, and databases such as PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
  • Skilled at using AI tools such as Copilot, Claude Code or Cursor to speed up coding and engineering work.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Ability to work in a low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • Bonus: experience with LLM orchestration (LangChain, etc.), vector databases, or building APIs for conversational agents.

Conditions

Hybrid role: work in the office at least 3 days a week, including Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In-office work is an essential function of the role.

Hybrid roles can work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

Expected base pay in the Toronto area is CAD $108,000 to CAD $135,000, excluding potential equity, bonus or benefits. The range varies with qualifications, experience and location, and the recruiter can share the range for your working location.
