Description

The company supports primary care physicians and their teams with Counterpart Assistant, a platform that thousands of practitioners already use during patient visits to spot patient needs sooner, turn complex clinical information into clear next steps, and manage chronic conditions over time. It is a subsidiary of a larger healthcare organization.

You will lead the UX design team for the Interventions Pillar, which designs how clinical insight turns into action. The area covers clinical decision support, treatment planning, intervention selection, treatment execution, care coordination, and longitudinal follow-through.

You will manage experienced designers who already know the product, its systems, and its clinical users well. Your job is to help them take more strategic ownership, decide well when things are unclear, influence across the company, and shape the future of their domains.

AI is central to this work. You will guide teams on where AI can help clinicians synthesize information, weigh options, plan care, and follow through, while keeping evidence, transparency, and clinical control in place.

The pillar addresses a core healthcare problem: spotting an opportunity is not enough. Better outcomes depend on turning insight into the right decision, plan, action, and lasting follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Set a clear UX strategy across clinical decision support, treatment planning, intervention selection, execution, coordination, and longitudinal follow-through.
  • Coach senior designers to lead through ambiguity, set strategy, make hard trade-offs, influence senior stakeholders, and grow their impact beyond their own product areas.
  • Work with teams to decide where AI should synthesize information, generate options, recommend next steps, automate work, or stay out of the workflow. Set standards for evidence, uncertainty, human oversight, review, and correction.
  • Partner with clinical, product, engineering, data science, and research leaders to connect clinical needs, model capabilities, user evidence, technical limits, and business priorities.
  • Strengthen critique, research synthesis, clinical review, prototyping, evaluation, and learning so teams move quickly without oversimplifying hard problems.
  • In the first 90 days, build strong partnerships with product directors, balance workloads across teams, and make design a core part of business strategy. Success is measured by stakeholder feedback, better design integration, and operational effectiveness.
  • In the first 6 months, deepen user understanding, put research into design decisions, push for best-in-class UX, and cut time-to-insight by 30%. Build a culture of experimentation and autonomy, and guide the team through complex problem solving.
  • Beyond six months, position design as a business driver that improves engagement, provider adoption, and overall user experience. Push for consumer-grade, next-generation experiences, and raise design's role in product direction. Success is measured by best-in-class UX, influence on industry standards, and product changes that shift user expectations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of design experience in an in-house, agency, or related industry setting, including 5+ years of managing people.
  • Experience leading complex, high-stakes workflows in healthcare or another expert professional domain.
  • Strong judgment in interaction design, information design, research, and product strategy, and the ability to coach others without taking over their work.
  • Proof that you have helped experienced designers grow from strong executors into strategic decision-makers and organizational leaders.
  • Experience with AI-enabled products, or sound judgment about recommendations, automation, evidence, uncertainty, and human oversight.
  • Experience with complex systems and applications, and skill at making them simple and intuitive.
  • A collaborative approach, working closely with product and engineering so design drives business outcomes rather than only execution.
  • Enthusiasm for bringing the quality and innovation of leading consumer products to healthcare UX.
