Description

The company is rebuilding health insurance with the aim of helping members stay healthier.

Diversity of background and life experience is valued, because healthcare affects everyone and the field needs varied voices.

The engineering team is kind, attentive and supportive, and it deliberately shapes its culture around strong individual skills and helping each other grow.

This role suits senior engineers who enjoy a wide range of problems. You will work alongside engineers, data scientists and healthcare professionals to build tools that improve real people's health.

The team belongs to a subsidiary of a parent company and focuses on helping physicians catch and manage chronic conditions earlier. Since starting in 2018, it has built an AI-enabled product that fits into doctors' workflows, and thousands of clinicians now use it during patient visits to manage disease, lower medical costs and deliver value-based care. The group combines value-based care and technology experts and moves at the speed of software.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain production software that implements healthcare interoperability standards, including FHIR and HL7.
  • Develop and test APIs, services and data pipelines that handle FHIR resources and HL7 messages.
  • Turn standards and implementation guides into code, data models, validation logic and automated tests.
  • Keep clinical meaning and data quality intact as information moves between systems.
  • Simplify the complexity of healthcare by building systems that multiply people's efforts.
  • Learn new tools and technologies to solve problems and advance the team's goals.
  • Help define and maintain development practices that allow fast iteration without losing quality, including writing tests and documenting key implementations.
  • Work with product managers and operations staff to build new features.
  • Define and own priorities that support the company's larger goals, bringing clarity to ambiguous work while staying open to new information.
  • Step in to fix what is broken and fill gaps needed to reach a goal, even outside your formal job description.
  • Build sustainable systems and enjoy big, complicated problems that you solve with pragmatic, well-engineered solutions.
  • Stay curious about how things work and how they could work better.
  • Care about what good technology can do for people and approach hard problems in an important industry with a positive attitude.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building production software with FHIR and HL7.
  • 5+ years as a software engineer, with experience in Python, JavaScript or Go.
  • Experience writing SQL queries in Postgres, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake or other database systems.
  • Comfort doing data engineering work, including cleaning, normalizing and improving data quality.
  • Ability to create and call RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with gRPC is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud services such as GCP or AWS.

Conditions

The role is remote-first, and you can work from home while collaborating with teams around the world.

The estimated base salary range is $169,200 - $220,000 USD.

Final pay depends on factors including internal equity, market data, and the applicant's education, work experience, certifications and similar.

The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes people of every race, gender identity, age, disability status, veteran status, sexual orientation, religion and background.

Benefits

  • A competitive base salary, equity opportunities and a performance-based bonus program.
  • Regular compensation reviews to recognize strong contributions.
  • Comprehensive group medical coverage for hospitalization, outpatient care, optical services and dental.
  • No-Meeting Fridays, company holidays, access to mental health resources and a generous annual leave policy.
  • Learning programs, mentorship, professional development funding, and regular performance feedback and reviews.
  • Reimbursement for office setup expenses.
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents.
