Senior Java Full Stack Developer

Description

This is an existing intermediate-level role in Technology, Applications Development. You will help establish and put in place new or revised application systems and programs alongside the Technology team.

The role's main aim is to support applications systems analysis and programming work.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-quality software using mature languages and methods, including Java Spring Boot and React.js.
• Take solutions from end to end: design, develop, test and deploy React.js front-end components and Java Spring Boot microservices.
• Design and build RESTful APIs, and expose backend features as MCP (Model Context Protocol) services that AI agents can call.
• Deploy and run applications in the company's cloud environment on OpenShift, Kubernetes and AWS, connecting them to S3 storage and Oracle as a Service (OraaS) databases.
• Work with product managers, designers and engineers across functions to turn business requirements into sound technical solutions.
• Assess and recommend new and emerging technologies, including AI, for complex business problems.
• Make components high quality, reusable and easy to maintain.
• Weigh risk in business decisions, protecting the firm's reputation, clients and assets, and keep work compliant with applicable laws, rules and regulations, company policy and sound ethics. Escalate and report control issues openly.
• Carry out feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology work, and applications development, including model development, to meet specific business needs.
• Oversee every phase of development, from analysis and design through construction, testing and implementation, and support business users on applications.
• Analyse complex problems and assess business processes, system processes and industry standards to reach sound judgements.
• Design and recommend security measures after launch, reviewing how the business uses the system to ensure it works as intended.
• Advise users, clients and other technology groups, propose advanced programming solutions, and install and support customer-facing systems.
• Follow essential procedures and help set operating standards and processes.
• Mentor new and junior analysts.
• Work with limited direct supervision, using your own judgement.
• Act as the subject matter expert for senior stakeholders and team members.

Requirements

• Communicate and collaborate well, explaining complex technical ideas to varied audiences.
• 6+ years of professional full-stack development experience, including delivering large, complex enterprise applications.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience designing microservice-based applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with React.js and TypeScript for sophisticated user interfaces.
• Deep knowledge of Java and Spring Boot for enterprise-grade microservices.
• Experience building low-latency, scalable, high-throughput APIs with Spring Boot and Hibernate/JPA.
• Hands-on work with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) is essential.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with clean code in Core Java, J2EE, Collections and Multithreading.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and libraries, including security.
• Experience building distributed, multi-tier applications and reusable components or services.
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications.
• Experience running projects to successful delivery.
• Working knowledge of consulting and project management techniques and methods.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle tight deadlines or sudden changes in expectations or requirements.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose and deliver effective solutions.
• Bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Highly desirable: interest in or prior experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) and agent-based systems.

Conditions

Full-time position.

Salary range at the primary location: $94,300.00 to $141,500.00.
