Description

London, 4x days per week in-office

Vega is looking for a Full Stack Developer to build features end to end across our platform from Java/Spring Boot services and APIs to React and TypeScript interfaces – using AI tools as a core part of how they work and helping bring AI-powered capabilities into the product.

About Vega

Vega is transforming the way private markets operate. Alternative asset management is one of the most influential forces in the global economy, with over $20TN in assets today. Over the next five years, the industry is set to grow 3x, but GPs are facing challenges around their ability to handle the investment flows that are coming in. GPs have been completely underserved by innovation, particularly on the investor relations side.

Vega built the industry's first AI-native operating system, where all client work gets done – from the start of an investor's journey to its end. We are rethinking how work gets done in private markets from first principles: the opportunity is big, but it's also niche, high-stakes, and difficult to get right.

Who we are

We are still at the beginning of our journey. Vega was founded by former investors at Elliott and KKR, and built by talent from the world's leading technology and financial services firms – including Trade Republic, Revolut, Goldman Sachs, BCG, and more. We have raised $30M so far, with the backing of Apollo, Motive Partners, and 60+ senior executives from the industry. Today, we have over $300B AUM and 30,000 users on the platform, and we have much more left to do.

How we do it

Vega is a fast-growing startup. We want to make this a career-accelerating place for people with the ambition to build something big. If the below sounds appealing, it could be for you:

We do not seek consensus. You will be expected to voice opinions and take initiative. Vega's best people do not wait to be told what to do before finding solutions to problems they have spotted.

We believe bureaucracy is the killer of progress. We are focused on creating the minimum viable process to operate with quality at speed.

We prioritise talent over tenure. There is no promise of progression without performance – we assess and reward people on impact above all else.

We iterate fast. We make decisions amid ambiguity and with imperfect information, and we strive to balance committing to a hypothesis with iterating at low ego.

We play to win. Expectations, intensity and ambition are very high, with every single colleague contributing to Vega's success. This often will not be a 9-5.

We know that this culture won't be for everyone, and we endeavour to make this clear from the beginning of the recruiting process out of respect for your time. Ask yourself whether the above sounds exciting to you in practice every day, and if it does, we would love to hear from you.

Who succeeds in this role

We look for people who match our ambition levels, and then raise it further.

In this role, you will:

Own problems from scoping through shipping and iteration, working directly with business and engineering teams to turn ideas into production features across the full stack

Use agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor as a core part of how you design, build, test and review software – and help shape how the team gets the most from them

Work with our AI engineers to integrate AI features into the platform – wiring agents, LLM-powered workflows and MCP integrations into services and user interfaces, including streaming responses and sensible guardrails

Build and maintain microservices using Java 21 and Spring Boot, contributing to an open architecture that integrates the many players in the private markets ecosystem

Define, develop and optimise RESTful APIs, owning the contract between front end and back end with scalability and performance in mind

Work closely with designers to turn mockups into responsive, intuitive interfaces using React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, and contribute to the evolution of our design system and theming

Ensure seamless integration with third-party systems used by PE firms, distributors, private banks and fund administrators

Identify and fix bottlenecks across the stack – from data flow and service efficiency to front-end rendering and UX

Champion unit, integration and end-to-end testing, and DevOps best practices

Share knowledge and support other engineers, contributing to a culture of excellence and continuous learning

Requirements

  • Proven professional software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on work across both front end and back end, ideally on fintech applications
  • Fluency with AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) as part of your everyday workflow, with sound judgement on reviewing, testing and owning AI-generated code
  • Practical exposure to building with LLMs – e.g. calling model APIs, integrating an agent or tool-use flow, or shipping a feature on a platform such as AWS Bedrock – and an appetite to go deeper
  • Strong backend experience with Java and Spring Boot, including designing and building microservice architectures with RESTful APIs, and proficiency with SQL and ORMs
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, React and Tailwind CSS, with a strong grasp of responsive and mobile-first design
  • Experience in modern cloud distributed architecture, particularly AWS, Kubernetes and Kafka
  • Solid understanding of unit, integration and end-to-end testing, plus CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience working in an agile environment with cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering)
  • A proactive problem solver who takes initiative and brings high ambition to a fast-moving team
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on scalable solutions
  • Strong communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

Benefits

  • You will help define the transformation of one of the most influential industries of our time with AI, working alongside an ambitious and dedicated team
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Benefits including medical insurance, gym membership, learning budget, and more
