Description

The team is hiring a senior Java back-end developer with 5+ years of experience to lead technical design and delivery of critical systems.

You will make architecture calls, raise engineering standards, coach senior engineers, and work with product, security and platform teams on scalable, reliable and secure distributed systems.

This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities

  • Design system architecture for cloud-native microservices and event-driven platforms, weighing scalability, resilience, security and cost.
  • Produce high-level and low-level designs, integration patterns, API contracts and reference implementations.
  • Chair design reviews and make sure work follows domain-driven design, 12-factor principles and company standards.
  • Guide squads through the full SDLC, from discovery and proofs of concept to production and handoff to SRE.
  • Set coding standards, code review practices and secure-by-default patterns.
  • Mentor and coach senior engineers, and help grow future technical leaders.
  • Build core services in Java 17+ using Spring Boot, REST or GraphQL, and message or event streaming.
  • Tune performance, concurrency, observability and operations against SLOs and error budgets.
  • Lead quality work: unit, integration and contract testing, test data strategy and automated quality gates.
  • Design on AWS, Azure or GCP using Kubernetes, service mesh and CI/CD, and write infrastructure as code and secrets management patterns.
  • Work with SRE and platform teams on monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing and cost governance.
  • Architect integrations across SQL and NoSQL stores, Redis caching and Kafka or Pulsar event streams.
  • Define data contracts, schema evolution strategies, and idempotent or eventually consistent patterns.
  • Apply AppSec practices, OWASP controls, OAuth2/OIDC authentication and zero trust patterns, and meet regulatory and audit requirements where they apply.
  • Turn business needs into technical roadmaps and architecture runway.
  • Explain trade-offs and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • GenAI: knowledge of MCP, A2A and agentic architecture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience building enterprise systems, including 5+ years of Java and Spring at scale.
  • Proven delivery of cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong expertise in Java 11 or 17+, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
  • Experience with REST or GraphQL APIs, Kafka or Pulsar, Kubernetes and Docker.
  • RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra or DynamoDB) experience.
  • Redis caching, CI/CD on GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or Jenkins, and IaC with Terraform or ARM.
  • Observability with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana or ELK, plus feature flags and progressive delivery.
  • Solid grasp of concurrency, performance tuning, resiliency patterns (circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads) and fault tolerance.
  • Demonstrated leadership of architecture forums, design reviews and mentorship.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's or university degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Nice-to-have: gRPC.
  • Nice-to-have domain knowledge: payments, banking, capital markets, insurance, e-commerce, supply chain or telecom.
  • Nice-to-have security: threat modeling, shift-left security, SAST/DAST, secrets rotation and mTLS.
  • Nice-to-have data: CDC (Debezium), schema registry, exactly-once semantics and streaming ETL.
  • Nice-to-have platform: service mesh (Istio or Linkerd), API gateways (Kong or Apigee) and serverless (Lambda or Functions).
  • Nice-to-have patterns: CQRS, event sourcing, Saga orchestration and hexagonal architecture.
