Senior Software Engineer

Description

The company provides enterprise open source software for Linux, cloud, container and Kubernetes technologies.

You will work with developers, quality engineers and architects to test and analyze the product, find the root cause of problems and fix performance issues. You will also turn customer requirements into scale tests that mirror how customers run the platform.

Responsibilities

• Measure how the platform performs on public clouds and other environments.
• Create, run and report on test plans for the platform.
• Benchmark performance and system metrics to find bottlenecks and propose improvements.
• Build and operate open source and AI agent tools that monitor the platform under heavy load.
• Take part in upstream Kubernetes performance communities to improve the downstream product, and speak at public conferences to grow a Performance and Scale community.
• Work with product managers to decide which testing is needed and how to prioritize it.
• Talk with customers about how they use the platform, then build matching internal test cases and CI pipelines.
• Set up test environments that help developers locate the source of software bugs.
• Help set software performance goals, plan how to validate them, and share results with stakeholders.
• Collect data from performance tests, organize it and present it to internal and external audiences.
• Create methods and tools that compare performance data across platform versions to catch regressions.

Requirements

• You must hold a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (U.S. or foreign equivalent) plus three (3) years of experience in this role or a related one, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (U.S. or foreign equivalent) plus five (5) years of experience in this role or a related one.
• You must have three (3) years of experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware and OCS.
• You must have three (3) years of developing and testing software in Python or Golang.
• You must have three (3) years with performance monitoring and observability tools.
• You must have three (3) years using Github, Jira, Confluence, Miro and Agile development sprints.
• You must have three (3) years of Linux administration and Bash scripting.
• You must have three (3) years handling data retention, transformation, summarization and retrieval.
• You must have three (3) years designing and analyzing large scale distributed systems.
• You must have three (3) years using the profiling tools perf, cProfile, Pyroscope and Parca.
• You must have three (3) years working with CI/CD frameworks and tools.
• You must have two (2) years working with containerization technologies and Kubernetes.

Conditions

Pay depends on job location, experience, skills and training, external market value and internal pay equity. The salary range is $159,910 to $195,680 per year, and the final offer will depend on your qualifications.

For remote roles in the US, the salary range may vary by location but will match the job duties and relevant experience.

Remote work is allowed within normal commuting distance of the company's Raleigh, NC office.

The company's associates work in offices, flexible setups or fully remote, depending on their role, across 40+ countries.
