Senior Infrastructure Engineer - remote

This is a project lasting 3 months, with a possible extension.

The goal is to shut down the old domain servers safely, once every remaining dependency and service has been moved off them.

The company is a European digital services provider with 26,000 consultants and specialists, working with businesses and public sector organisations in 19 countries. It reported 2.2 billion euros in revenue for 2025.

Responsibilities

• Practise a complete restore of the old directory in a test environment.
• Shift DNS name resolution away from the old servers.
• Tidy the old directory and export a full backup before teardown.
• Pass on the special roles held by the domain servers, then power off the three domain servers one at a time, covering FSMO transfer and demotion.
• Move the management servers onto a setup that does not depend on the old domain.
• Agree with the client how to handle the 52 unidentified server records.
• Migrate database and service accounts away from old Windows logins.

Requirements

• Deep working knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), covering FSMO, replication, metadata cleanup, forest restore and domain controller demotion.
• Hands-on experience moving DNS, including zones, conditional forwarders and Azure Private Endpoints.
• Knowledge of Azure IaaS and the server lifecycle.
• Knowledge of SQL Windows authentication and gMSA / Managed Identity.
• Working knowledge of AD CS, DFS and NTFS permissions, and Entra Domain Services.
