Description

The Control Plane Platform team builds the shared foundation that every the company Cloud product is built and shipped on. The team gives engineering teams a single place to own and deploy their product, removes the need to rebuild common plumbing, and keeps the customer experience consistent as more teams integrate.

The team owns API gateways and API standards, shared platform services, deployment and infrastructure patterns, testing and CI, local developer experience, and Control Plane observability.

This is an Engineering Manager role leading the Platform team. It combines people management, technical direction, product input, and operational ownership, with a strong focus on the reliability customers expect.

You will work closely with Product, Infrastructure, Security, Support, and engineering teams across the company, and help define how new products and teams integrate and deploy in the company Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coach, and develop a strong team: recruit to a high bar, set clear expectations, give direct feedback, support career growth, and manage performance, while building an inclusive, psychologically safe environment with a high technical standard.
  • Own results across the platform: API gateways and standards, shared services (event bus, notifications, feature flags, websockets, audit records), deployment and infrastructure patterns, CI and testing, local developer experience, disaster recovery, and Control Plane observability.
  • Treat integrating teams as customers and measure success by their delivery speed and platform adoption, not only by what your team ships.
  • Guide architecture and help senior engineers make clear, sound tradeoffs. Lead cross-team migrations, deprecations, and contract changes without slowing product delivery.
  • Work directly in designs and code for complex areas such as gateway routing, auth and RBAC enforcement, spec-driven code generation, event delivery semantics and idempotency, and safe multi-region rollout.
  • Own SLOs, reliability, on-call quality, and cost efficiency for multi-tenant Kubernetes services across cloud regions.
  • Reduce toil by building self-serve and auto-healing capabilities, including golden-path templates, generators, and documentation that lets a new team integrate within days instead of weeks.
  • Set the platform direction, turn it into a roadmap, prioritise work by business impact, and move quickly with short feedback loops. Write RFCs to build cross-org agreement before major changes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering and 3+ years managing engineers, with a record of hiring, growing, and retaining strong people.
  • Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team whose customers are other engineering teams, driving adoption and cross-org migrations through influence and tooling rather than mandate.
  • Experience leading distributed global teams, building an inclusive, autonomous culture, and keeping clarity across time zones.
  • Experience building scalable, highly available, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS (EKS, SQS, DocumentDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, Lambdas), using infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm) and progressive delivery (Argo Rollouts or similar).
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including hosting many independently deployed applications in one shared cluster.
  • Familiarity with API platform work: OpenAPI contracts, API gateways, and the shared concerns they handle, such as authentication, RBAC, rate limiting, versioning, and deprecation.
  • A record of splitting a monolith into independently deployable services without stalling product delivery.
  • Enough technical depth to engage in architecture and incidents without doing daily implementation.
  • You still enjoy working in code and designs for complex or critical areas, reviewing code, and giving feedback.
  • Sound judgment when handling ambiguity, parallel workstreams, risk, and long-term system health.
  • Experience with large TypeScript/Node monorepos and their developer experience problems: CI scale and flakiness, build and test times, local environments, and code generation from specs.
  • Experience designing and implementing load balancing, auto-scaling, disaster recovery, and failover for cloud environments.
  • Experience building CI/CD at scale.
  • Experience with internal developer platforms: service catalogs, golden-path templates, and self-service app scaffolding.
  • Proficiency with React.
  • Experience making APIs usable by AI agents, such as MCP servers, CLIs, or skills generated from API specs.
  • Experience with the company.
  • Previous experience developing analytics or data-intensive applications.
  • You will shape how all feature teams in the company Cloud build and integrate with one another.
  • You will work with ownership, autonomy, and speed while keeping the company lean.
  • You will lead a technical team where correctness, performance, reliability, and developer experience all matter.
