IT Platform Engineer/Application Programmer

The company designs, builds and runs mission-critical technology for large organisations.

The team builds and operates the Data & Analytics Platform for a major bank, centred on its Enterprise Data Lake, where data is treated as the base for customer value.

The role suits a software engineer who likes data, complex platform environments and the newest tools.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver functionality for the Enterprise Data Lake, working with development engineers, system administrators and security specialists.
• Make sure the platform meets the bank's needs and follows good practice for scalability, reliability, fault tolerance and security.
• Create robust, secure, high-quality solutions in a cloud environment.
• Apply software engineering practice, including SOLID principles, design patterns and domain-driven design.
• Work with Product Owners, Architects and IT stakeholders to connect technical direction with business goals.
• Build and maintain scalable data platforms in Azure alongside the engineering team.
• Introduce and run DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines to speed up delivery.
• Keep code quality high with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest and mocking.
• Support and coach team members, encouraging ownership, new ideas and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Solid experience in what you do, with a growth mindset and a drive to develop yourself.

• Open, inclusive and easy to work with across borders and teams.
• Required: strong experience in object-oriented programming, analysis and design. Python is preferred.
• Required: applying SOLID principles and design patterns.
• Required: a good grasp of incremental software development, DevOps and CI/CD.
• Required: proven work with cloud services, including SDKs, Terraform and Databricks. Azure is preferred.
• Optional: experience with Unity Catalog.
• Optional: experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform.
• Required: familiarity with layer tests and the testing pyramid. Pytest is optional.
• Required: excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Required: an analytical approach and effective problem solving.
• Required: a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Required: the ability to mentor and support team members.
