Senior Infrastructure Engineer

You will join the Platform Infrastructure Engineering team to build, support and improve the cloud infrastructure that keeps services running, working mainly in Microsoft Azure across hands-on engineering, automation, security and operations.

Responsibilities

• Create, deploy and maintain Azure infrastructure covering compute, storage, networking, Key Vaults, backups, disaster recovery, monitoring and security services.
• Keep infrastructure secure and dependable by addressing vulnerabilities, applying patches, maintaining platforms and following sound operating practice.
• Diagnose and resolve difficult infrastructure problems, strengthening the resilience and uptime of services.
• Work with other teams on technical projects, and write and update architecture, standards and operational documentation.
• Automate and standardise infrastructure to keep improving it, balancing project work, routine operations and escalated incidents, including a rota for out-of-hours support.

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of Azure and Windows Server, including Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, file services, backup and disaster recovery.
• Hands-on experience running large-scale Azure IaaS and PaaS services such as virtual machines, storage accounts, Azure networking, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery and Key Vaults.
• Familiarity with Azure management, monitoring and security tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Update Manager, Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy, Bastion and Just-In-Time Access, plus Grafana or SolarWinds.
• Experience using infrastructure-as-code and automation, such as Bicep, Terraform, Git and PowerShell, to build and improve services.
• Experience running secure enterprise infrastructure, covering vulnerability management, security controls, compliance, and backup and recovery, and able to work both independently and within a team.
• Nice to know or learn: AWS and deploying workloads on other public clouds.
• Nice to know or learn: Linux infrastructure, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu virtual machines.
• Nice to know or learn: hardening frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks and NIST, particularly in financial services or other regulated environments.
• Nice to know or learn: modern identity and secure access technologies, including Azure Enterprise Applications, Microsoft Defender and Zero Trust tools such as Zscaler.
• Nice to know or learn: AI technologies, AI agents and Copilot-based tools for automation, productivity and operational efficiency.
