Senior Full Stack Engineer

Description

The company is a consultancy of engineers, designers and product strategists. Its people modernise systems, build new products and take over projects that are in trouble.

The team uses cloud-native and AI-enabled tools and combines Agile, Lean and design thinking to solve clients' hardest problems, aiming to get it right the first time.

Much of the work is in regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, government and education. Projects include AI-assisted disease detection, identifying children who need special educational support, AI support for complex legal settlements, and easier access to mental health services.

The hiring process has three steps: an initial screening email, a technical assessment interview, and a panel interview.

Responsibilities

• Lead work across the whole software lifecycle, from early design through deployment and monitoring.
• Build scalable, cost-efficient backend services in Python on AWS, using Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS and EventBridge.
• Design event-sourced systems and event-driven pipelines that keep a full state history for auditing, handle messages reliably and remain idempotent, and stay eventually consistent across distributed services.
• Work with product managers and designers to turn requirements into technical designs and code that can ship.
• Apply good practice for security, logging, monitoring and infrastructure as code, using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Carry out thorough code reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and raise the technical standard of the team.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies and patterns, with an eye on development speed and system performance.
• Form and state a clear, secure and ethical view on how AI tools belong in the software lifecycle.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional full-stack development experience.
• Expert Python for backend work, including Django.
• Strong working knowledge of Vue.js and TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying and maintaining serverless applications, ideally on AWS Lambda, API Gateway and other managed services.
• Working SQL, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Solid grasp of event sourcing and event-driven architecture, including message brokers or streaming services such as SQS, SNS, EventBridge or Kinesis.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and infrastructure as code.
• Daily fluency with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, agentic coding tools and large language models.
• Proven, hands-on use of AI coding tools that produced specific, measurable productivity gains, along with an understanding of the risks, including code quality, security and intellectual property, and how to manage them.
• Experience with advanced AWS services such as Step Functions, Kinesis or SageMaker.
• Experience in a regulated or compliance-focused environment.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• Be ready to discuss and demonstrate the following in interviews: specific examples of AI tools you have used in work or personal projects to boost productivity, solve hard problems or speed up development, and your preferred agentic tool setup if you have one.
• Be ready to explain the current technical, ethical and accuracy limits of AI tools in engineering.
• Be ready to explain how AI creates new opportunities for engineers, such as moving effort from boilerplate to problem solving and architecture.
• Be ready to describe how your own role has already changed because of AI, including new workflows, skills and ways of working together, and how you expect it to evolve as AI advances.
