Description

The company is a consultancy of engineers, designers and product strategists. It specialises in modernising legacy systems, building new products and recovering projects that have stalled.

Teams combine current cloud-native and AI-enabled tooling with Agile, Lean and design thinking to tackle clients' hardest problems and get the solution right early.

Much of the work is in regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, government and education. Examples include detecting disease, finding children who need extra learning support, using AI in complex legal settlements and improving access to mental health care.

Responsibilities

  • Own work across the full lifecycle of a feature, from early design through release and production monitoring.
  • Design and build scalable, cost-efficient Python backend services on AWS, using Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS and EventBridge.
  • Create event-sourced systems that keep a complete record of state changes so every change can be audited.
  • Build event-driven pipelines that process messages reliably, handle duplicates safely through idempotency and reach eventual consistency across services.
  • Turn requirements from product and design colleagues into technical designs and shipped code.
  • Apply security, logging and monitoring practices, and manage infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Review code thoroughly, mentor junior and mid-level engineers and raise the technical bar across the team.
  • Research and adopt new technologies and patterns, aiming for faster delivery and better system performance.
  • Form and communicate a clear view on using AI tools in software development safely, ethically and effectively.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional full-stack software development.
  • Expert-level Python for backend work, including Django.
  • Solid working skill with Vue.js and TypeScript.
  • Substantial hands-on experience building, deploying and running serverless applications, ideally on AWS Lambda, API Gateway and managed services.
  • Good SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQL.
  • Working knowledge of event-sourced and event-driven designs, including message brokers or streaming services such as SQS, SNS, EventBridge or Kinesis.
  • You know how to run CI/CD, automated tests and infrastructure as code.
  • Proven fluency with AI coding tools: you have used them in practice for specific, measurable productivity gains and you understand how to manage risks such as code quality, security and IP.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced AWS services such as Step Functions, Kinesis or SageMaker.
  • Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven environment.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • All candidates should be ready to discuss how they use AI tools, with concrete examples from work or personal projects that boosted productivity or solved hard problems, including your preferred agentic setup if you have one.
  • Be able to explain the technical, ethical and accuracy limits of current AI tools in engineering work.
  • Be able to describe the opportunities AI opens for engineers, such as moving effort from boilerplate code to complex problem-solving and architecture.
  • Be able to explain how your own role has already changed with AI, including new workflows, skills and ways of collaborating, and where you expect it to go as tools advance.
