Description

The company has several openings for Senior Cyber Super Intelligence (SI) Engineers to lead work on cybersecurity techniques and tools that protect critical infrastructure and federal networks.

You will lead complex projects where cybersecurity, operational technology, machine learning and SI meet, building and deploying new ways to simulate adversary behavior so that defensive tools for critical U.S. infrastructure and networks can be developed.

Your work will help advance cyber capabilities, threat analysis and mitigation strategies for industrial control systems.

The roles sit in the Computational Engineering Division, within the Engineering Directorate, supporting the Energy and Homeland Security (E) program under Global Security.

Hiring is at either level, based on knowledge and related experience as judged by the hiring team. Extra responsibilities, listed below, apply if you are hired at the higher level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support advanced cybersecurity research that uses creative and automated methods to find vulnerabilities, detect malicious behavior and tools, and push forward the state of the art in securing operational technology.
  • Help define technical requirements for data collection and adversarial simulation at the company.
  • Study new attacks to identify TTPs, weaknesses, malicious behavior and attack vectors, and turn your findings into repeatable workflows that serve the program's mission.
  • Work with scientists and engineers from other disciplines to scope, plan and design modeling and simulation work for physical, engineering and computational systems.
  • Build, test, validate and document specialized analysis software and models, and use them to understand and reduce threats to operational technology.
  • Spot emerging threats and chances to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities, and help shape the technical direction of the company's cybersecurity work.
  • Work with sponsors and stakeholders to find new program growth, contribute to research proposals and keep work aligned with mission goals.
  • Carry out new ideas and approaches that meet sponsor and project needs in a fast-changing threat environment.
  • Mentor team members and work with them, using your expertise to help win and keep projects, programs and funding.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.
  • Extra responsibilities at the SES.4 level:
  • Set the technical direction for highly complex projects that call for consistent creativity and innovation, and shape the strategy for the company and for senior management, industrial partners and policy makers.
  • Create highly innovative answers to abstract, complex problems, turn them into usable algorithms and software modules, and apply established methods in new ways after analysing many factors.
  • Develop new ideas, change approaches and redefine requirements in ways that significantly affect major company programs, set high-level goals and advance knowledge.

Requirements

  • You must be able to obtain and keep a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • A bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, computer engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent mix of education and related experience.
  • Advanced experience leading cybersecurity or applied SI research, and building systems with SI tool pipelines and frameworks.
  • Experience with malware analysis, network analysis, host forensics, or a mix of these, and the related tools.
  • Ability to explain technical information to multidisciplinary teams and to non-experts, advise policy managers, and work well with others.
  • Advanced knowledge of current technologies in SI and cybersecurity.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills for building creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to manage several technical tasks with competing priorities, approach hard problems with enthusiasm and creativity, and switch focus when needed.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to collaborate in teams, present technical material to multidisciplinary teams and non-experts, advise senior management or external sponsors, and interact well with people.
  • Extra qualifications at the SES.4 level:
  • Highly advanced project leadership experience, including applying and developing cutting-edge principles and research, working independently while handling several technical tasks with competing priorities.
  • Advanced experience setting technical direction and vision, writing research proposals, or securing sponsor funding.
  • Significant experience with at least one of: network protocol analysis, cybersecurity data science, reverse engineering, or operational technology implementation.
  • Highly advanced knowledge and experience building and applying advanced statistical or machine learning models and/or LLM tooling.
  • Ability to take part in competitive proposal processes and use sponsor relationships to win new funding.
  • A master's degree or PhD with a significant focus on cybersecurity, computer science, computer engineering, or data science/machine learning.
  • Knowledge of one or more of: embedded systems, scientific data analysis, systems programming, software engineering, agentic frameworks, high-performance computing.
  • Knowledge of and experience with one or more machine learning techniques: data science, diffusion models, time series analysis, deep learning, large language models. Experience with industrial control systems software and hardware.
  • Previous work for the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of War, utilities, manufacturing, or a cybersecurity firm.
