You will design secure, integrated technology solutions for NNSA business services, scientific research, and mission-critical operations at several sites.

The role sits in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) division of the Computing Directorate.

You will work with mixed teams to assess needs, choose technologies, set out architectures, and guide delivery from planning through deployment. Some travel is occasional, to meet stakeholders and partners.

The hiring team will fill this role at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level, based on assessed knowledge and related experience. If hired at SES.3, you will take on the additional duties listed below.

Responsibilities

  • Work with application owners and developers to examine business and technical needs.
  • Help deploy and design both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and in-house applications.
  • Apply and build out proven deployment methods, patterns, reference architectures, roadmaps, and documentation.
  • Make sure applications, systems, networks, and data sources connect and work together.
  • Work with business stakeholders, developers, vendors, and project teams to judge technical risk, cost, performance, and whether implementation is feasible.

  • Suggest better deployment patterns, integration approaches, and operating processes.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
  • Additional duties at the SES.3 level:
  • Write business process documentation and build workflows that speed up application onboarding.
  • Work with Program Management to pinpoint complicated problems and propose fixes.
  • Present Enterprise Secure Network capabilities and platforms to prospective customers at industry trade shows and other events.

Requirements

  • You must be able to obtain and keep a US DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires US citizenship.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and related experience.
  • Wide experience with virtualization platforms such as VMWare.
  • Wide experience with enterprise operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Wide experience with containers such as Docker or Kubernetes, plus thorough knowledge of DevSecOps concepts.
  • Thorough knowledge of current authentication flows such as SAML, OIDC, or OAUTH2.
  • Wide experience with commercial cloud providers using IaaS or PaaS services, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Wide experience deploying large COTS software packages or managing application rollouts at scale.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to work well in a team or alone and to present and explain technical information.
  • Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level:
  • Deep experience with several virtualization platforms, such as VMWare, Hyper-V, OpenShift, or commercial cloud providers.
  • Deep experience with networking technologies and enterprise network-attached storage.
  • Deep experience supporting common relational or document databases, such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, or MongoDB.
  • Deep experience advising stakeholders and management on integrated technology solutions.
  • Current IT certifications, such as VMWare VCP, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Windows Server Administrator, Red Hat RHCSA, or AWS SA-A.
  • Working knowledge of storage systems and protocols such as NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, or S3.
  • Working knowledge of Layer 4 to 7 networking and application protocols such as TCP, UDP, HTTP, or TLS.

Conditions

Salary at the SES.2 level is $146,340 to $185,544 per year.

Salary at the SES.3 level is $175,530 to $222,564 per year.

The role is hybrid, with a mix of in-person and virtual work, and you may work from home one day per week. Schedules are flexible depending on project needs.

This position requires a DOE Q-level clearance. If selected, you will undergo a federal background investigation. Cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.
