Description

The role leads the design, implementation and integration of automation projects across manufacturing and laboratory operations, and gives technical support and troubleshooting for the systems you are assigned.

You will handle moderate to complex configuration and programming of Operation Technology (OT) systems for the manufacturing process, utilities and facilities control systems, following the company's change management procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert for automation applications, process control systems and robotics, with a working understanding of common system integration communication protocols.
  • Advise on process control matters and recommend fixes and improvements to manufacturing issues.
  • Write or review configuration and programming against defined practices, confirming it meets user and functional requirements.
  • Train OT system users and engineers on new automation technologies and process control applications.
  • Diagnose and fix hardware, software and networking faults in OT systems, replacing defective parts when needed. Implement and validate OT system upgrades and data migrations for DCS, PLCs, Ignition SCADA and data historian systems.
  • Support OT system lifecycle work, including validation, by writing and running qualification protocols and related documents such as system functional and design specifications.
  • Carry out scheduled OT system administration and maintenance, including operating system and anti-virus updates, patching, user account management, critical data backups and similar tasks.
  • Plan, monitor, report on and control small to medium automation projects, scaled to their size and criticality.
  • Be flexible about working hours to perform maintenance and other changes on production systems during off-peak times, which may occasionally mean evenings or weekends.
  • Meet EHS management system requirements and compliance obligations, support continuous improvement, and factor EHS aspects into design and change work. Follow all relevant EHS procedures and policies, including incident reporting, PPE use, and waste management and disposal.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering and at least four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with SCADA and PLCs, including Ignition and Allen-Bradley, ladder logic and structured text programming, and HMI graphics development and management.
  • Knowledge of writing and supporting commissioning and qualification activities, including change control.
  • Experience with FDA, GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity, and safety and environmental legislation in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or medical device manufacturing, including good operational practice and regulatory expectations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and related components for OT system configuration, including Active Directory, user administration, TCP/IP with DHCP, WINS and DNS.
  • Ability to lead the technical side of programs, manage external vendors, and lead cross-functional teams made up of internal and external staff.
