QA Automation Engineer

This is a contract-to-hire (C2H) role for a QA automation engineer.

Responsibilities

• Build and upkeep scalable automation frameworks in Playwright with Java.
• Write, run and maintain automated scripts for functional, regression, integration and end-to-end testing of web applications.
• Work with developers, product owners, business analysts and QA colleagues to grasp requirements and set out full test strategies.
• Create reusable automation components and utilities that make testing faster and broaden coverage.
• Connect automated suites to CI/CD pipelines so they run smoothly without manual steps.
• Test and validate APIs with widely used tools and frameworks.
• Read application requirements and technical specifications to spot test scenarios and areas worth automating.
• Review test results, log defects and push development teams to resolve them.
• Carry out code reviews and uphold automation best practices, coding standards and quality processes.
• Watch automation runs, produce test reports and give stakeholders regular status updates.
• Coach junior automation engineers and help drive ongoing process improvement.
• Keep up with new automation tools, testing trends and industry practice.

Requirements

• Experience across automation testing, Playwright, Java, API testing, CI/CD, Agile and test framework development.
• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or a related field.
• Solid hands-on Java programming skills.
• Deep experience automating tests in Playwright with Java.
• Experience building automation frameworks from the ground up.
• A firm grasp of testing methods, the test lifecycle and quality assurance principles.
• Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured or similar.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Good working knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
• Experience in Agile or Scrum teams.
• Strong analytical, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Clear verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Preferred: experience with cloud-based testing platforms and modern DevOps practices.
• Preferred: hands-on work with performance testing and test reporting tools.
• Preferred: knowledge of containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Preferred: experience connecting automation suites to test management and defect tracking tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Preferred: ISTQB or other relevant testing certification is a plus.
• Preferred: prior experience leading automation initiatives or mentoring QA teams.
• Preferred: exposure to AI-assisted testing tools and modern quality engineering practices.
