QA Automation Engineer - Java/SQL (AVP)

The Equity Finance team in Belfast is hiring a QA test engineer as the company undertakes a multi-year overhaul of its Prime Services business. The role is full time and sits in the Technology job family, under Applications Development.

The work moves quickly and calls for a practical, careful approach to delivery. Strong communication matters, because you will help internal clients get consistently high-quality service.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain and work within a BDD automation framework.
• Write detailed, well-organised test plans and test cases, estimate testing effort, and handle regression testing, test automation and other project artifacts.
• Act as a quality gate by finding, logging, documenting in depth and tracking defects before software reaches clients.
• Build and run API automation tests for functional and non-functional testing with tools the company has approved.
• Look for ways to refine how the QA function works so the team stays efficient and can grow.
• Investigate issues with the business and Production Support, and help prevent production defects.
• Create and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs.
• Help the team develop innovative solutions for the business.
• Apply established software testing concepts and methods to everyday work.
• Work with developers to find and resolve issues.
• Adjust to changing business needs and shift focus when priorities change.
• This is a high-level outline of the work, and other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• Recommended: proven industry experience in test automation, with strong hands-on Java skills.
• Recommended: solid experience with Cucumber-based BDD automation frameworks.
• Recommended: strong hands-on experience in API automation and testing.
• Recommended: prior experience using SQL for database validation and testing.
• Recommended: fair working knowledge of CI/CD, Jenkins, Git and similar tools.
• Recommended: sharp logical, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing business requirements and priorities.
• Preferred: exposure to the finance industry or a background in financial applications, which is a significant advantage.
• A bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
