Automation Engineer

Description

The company supplies technology, automation and services to the pulp, paper and energy industries, with about 19,000 staff worldwide.

This role sits in the engineering services team and supports large-scale papermaking equipment at customer sites across North America.

Work is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Write the machine code for PLC or DCS systems, and the HMI software, so equipment runs as specified.
• Test software changes as far as possible before delivery in the shop.
• Take part in or lead start-up at customer sites, including checking electrical, PLC and HMI parts.
• Commission equipment until it meets specifications.
• Train customer operators and maintenance staff on technical topics when needed.
• Return to sites to resolve warranty issues or customer needs.

Requirements

• A two- or four-year degree in engineering, papermaking technology, programming or a related field, plus three to five years in a technical role in papermaking or a related technical field. Equivalent combined education and experience is accepted.
• Working knowledge of PLC programming, including Rockwell software.
• Knowledge of papermaking machinery and hydraulic systems is preferred but not required.
