Responsibilities

  • Help plan and design the company's MX, PTX and QFX routing platforms and related solutions in the customer's infrastructure.

  • Run Junos software release testing and validation in the customer's lab.
  • Test patches and fixes in the pre-production network, then confirm they work in the live network according to the implementation plan.
  • Run design and discovery workshops with the customer to learn how the current network is built and what new designs must do.
  • Train the customer's design, implementation and support staff to configure and operate the company's routing products.
  • Send the customer regular written status reports on design projects, equipment and network problems.
  • Write network operating procedures, configuration standards and implementation plans for the company's products.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and network faults, and open and follow JTAC cases until each problem is resolved, before and after go-live.
  • Learn the customer's organization and its network implementation and support processes so the network stays available and sustainable.
  • Hold technology workshops with the customer to review problems, give case updates, and explain causes, workarounds and fixes under test.
  • Help the customer write its network and equipment operating procedures.
  • Build and maintain fault diagnosis procedures that speed up fault resolution.
  • Support the company's products in the customer's production environment.
  • Help define best-practice policies for how the customer uses the company's products (internal use only).
  • Act as the subject matter expert on the company's platforms, software and features, and work directly with the company on issues with new software or features.
  • Share lessons learned with other resident consultants to reduce risk during major upgrades or network changes.
  • Build secondary skills on other products in the company's portfolio.
  • Handle other tasks and duties as needed to support the customer or the business.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of design, implementation and operations experience on large-scale IP networks.
  • Working knowledge of the Junos CLI.
  • Proven large-scale experience with MX, PTX and ACX routers.
  • Solid understanding of service provider IP protocols, including TCP/IP and MPLS fundamentals; OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-TE, RSVP, LDP, IPv6 and routing policy; routing protocol operation, migration and scaling; routing policies at BGP peering points; VPN and tunneling technologies including MPLS, L3VPN, VPLS and MVPN; and Ethernet switching with 802.1Q, QoS and class of service.
  • Experience automating with Ansible, YAML and PyEZ.
  • Experience writing Python automation scripts.
  • Able to communicate clearly during incidents with audiences from operations staff up to CIO and CISO level.
