Description

The placement sits in the project management team for assembly, integration and test and production, covering space products such as structures and panels, propulsion modules and complex mechanisms.

These sub-assemblies feed the mechanical platform built in Stevenage, which is integrated into telecommunication spacecraft. Earth observation, navigation and science missions passing through the facility may also offer work.

The team is currently ramping up a new spacecraft product and industrialising its more complex processes.

You will join the spacecraft production team on the Stevenage mechanical platform, within the Stevenage manufacturing assembly, integration and test organisation. The team is accountable for delivering finished spacecraft modules to internal customers and stakeholders.

The placement gives you a view of careers in project management and control, a chance to apply what you have studied, and hands-on industry experience.

Guidance and supervision are always available, and you will have wide freedom to shape your work your own way.

The role is allocated to the projected joint-venture scope with a leading European space company.

  • Help issue and keep a schedule up to date in line with multi-functional team and performance management expectations, working alongside the department scheduler.
  • Drive tasks forward so that deliveries land on time.
  • Track risks and issues that could affect a major milestone for final delivery.
  • Own cost management and reporting within the operational scope of the project.
  • Keep internal stakeholders informed and manage what they expect from you.

Requirements

  • Placements are open to undergraduates only, so you must remain an undergraduate for the whole placement and state your graduation date in your application.
  • Submit a CV and a cover letter explaining your motivation and suitability for the role.
  • You are studying towards a degree in manufacturing, production engineering or project management.
  • You have knowledge of project management.
  • You are IT literate, comfortable with reporting and spreadsheets.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills, enjoy being part of a team, speak up and share what you know.
  • You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need UK SC-level security clearance or export control, depending on the role.
