Program Manager

Description

The company makes motion control products for land, sea, air and space. Its Space and Defense Group has the longest history in the business and works on steadily evolving technology.

The Defense Group team is based in Goleta, CA, and this role sits within it.

You will oversee several production or development programs, typically worth $1 to $12 million each.

You will be the main contact for the customer and keep program communication, reporting and internal updates moving across the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Build detailed plans and schedules for each program so that all its elements work together.
• Track cost, schedule and task progress to confirm the programs stay on plan.
• Direct the work through the company's functional departments so that contract requirements, performance targets and profit goals are met.
• Arrange program resources with functional managers.
• Handle day-to-day customer communication and resolve open issues promptly.
• Keep all program activity compliant with contract terms.
• Plan and produce presentation material for internal and customer reviews, then run those meetings.
• Write regular status reports for management and the customer that show program issues and risks.
• Help prepare proposals and change orders, and support fact-finding and negotiations from a program management standpoint.
• Travel up to 25% of the time.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a business or technical field, preferably engineering.
• Five years of program or technical leadership in aerospace, defense or a similar complex, highly engineered manufacturing setting.
• Clear skills in presenting program information to customers and senior management.
• Ability to stay effective under high pressure.
• Working proficiency in MS Project is required.
• Ideal: experience running several programs at once.
• Ideal: experience managing development programs.
• Ideal: familiarity with project management tools, including Earned Value Management.
• Ideal: experience with DoD customers and knowledge of DoD contract terms, conditions and requirements.
• Ideal: PMI PMP certification.

Conditions

The base salary range for this role in Santa Barbara, CA is $140,000 to $165,000 a year. Final pay depends on location, experience and performance, and the range is only one part of total compensation.

The role is onsite in Santa Barbara, CA.

The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
