Description

This is a new opening, not a replacement for an existing vacancy, and applications are open.

Artificial intelligence will be used as part of the hiring process for this role.

The company is hiring a Principal or Staff Software Engineer to shape the platforms that build, test, integrate, validate and ship embedded software for software-defined vehicles.

You will lead a major capability across several teams and influence technical direction beyond your own group, tying software, tooling, infrastructure, testing and release work into one engineering system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the modernization of a large embedded software test system.
  • Design and roll out a standard, fully automated, headless framework that runs across virtual and physical test environments, so the full suite can run several times a day.
  • Define the architecture and roadmap for standard test execution, configuration and variant management, traceability, quality gates, regression selection and results reporting.
  • Set up change-impact analysis and risk-based regression strategies with Gears, Pure Variants or equivalent tools, so test applicability is clear and retesting is minimized.
  • Standardize test result schemas, metadata, diagnostics and artifacts, and store them in Databricks for analytics, trend analysis, data mining and reporting.
  • Build APIs and integrations that connect test execution, test management, issue tracking, failure triage and diagnostic tools.
  • Improve test robustness, failure triage, execution speed and deployment efficiency across CI/CD pipelines and both physical and virtual test environments.
  • Success means faster, more reliable test deployment and execution, leaner regression testing, traceable results available through Databricks and documented APIs, quicker failure identification and resolution, and clear test applicability across software, hardware, configuration and platform variants.
  • Find improvement opportunities, define strategies and processes, and lead the change, staying hands-on in high-impact work.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and communicate clearly with them.
  • Analyze unusual, difficult problems and connect several initiatives to deliver more value.
  • Envision the innovation, learning and simplification the area needs, and move the team to deliver it.
  • Keep strong technical command while staying empathetic with people.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computing, electrical, software or systems engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Typically 10+ and 15+ more years of experience validating software systems, including significant experience leading architecture across organizations.
  • A strong understanding of software architecture for real-time systems.
  • Experience shipping high-quality safety-critical products.
  • Experience designing large-scale CI/CD, embedded test automation and build-to-test pipelines.
  • Skill in variant management, configuration comparison, change-impact analysis and risk-based regression testing.
  • Experience modeling test-result data, working in Databricks, and doing analytics, data mining and API development.
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems, Linux, Git, Python, Bash, Robot Framework, containers and infrastructure as code.
  • A proven ability to integrate automated diagnostics and issue-management workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with close attention to detail.
  • A proven ability to juggle several projects and priorities at once.
  • A proven ability to make decisions and act in an action-oriented setting.
  • Preferred qualification: a master's degree or PhD in computer science, software engineering, machine learning, AI or a related field.
  • Preferred qualification: experience in embedded software development, automotive software, systems engineering or safety-related toolchains.
  • Preferred qualification: familiarity with the company's engineering tools, workflows or internal platform environments.
  • Preferred qualification: experience building AI assistants, coding agents or domain-specific AI tools for engineers.
  • Preferred qualification: experience with knowledge systems, vector search, ranking, workflow orchestration or code intelligence platforms.
  • Preferred qualification: experience supporting large engineering communities with reusable tools, templates and automation.
  • Preferred qualification: experience measuring AI quality in production using outcomes such as acceptance rate, time saved, precision and recall, hallucination reduction or workflow completion rate.
