Principal PCIe Application Engineer

Description

The team is SSD Controller Engineering, which builds memory and storage technology for cloud, AI and enterprise computing.

You will work with teams spread across the world to deliver high-quality storage products.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on validating next-generation SSD controller ASICs from development through production, with high visibility across the organization.

You will set the validation direction, tackle hard system-level problems, and work with architecture, firmware, design verification and product engineering to get products shipped successfully.

Responsibilities

• Own validation for ASICs from the pre-silicon FPGA stage through to qualification and release to production.
• Write and run validation plans that cover function, performance, power, reliability and full-system testing.
• Bring up silicon after tape-out, debug it, and find root causes across PCIe, NVMe, DDR, NAND/ONFI and firmware.
• Create automation frameworks, validation tools and test infrastructure that improve efficiency and coverage.
• Guide and mentor engineers, and keep cross-functional teams across several regions working together.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or an adjacent technical discipline.
• 10+ years working in ASIC or SoC validation, SSD controller development, storage systems, firmware development or nearby areas.
• Solid grasp of SSD controller architecture, system-level validation and high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, NVMe, DDR and NAND/ONFI.
• Hands-on work in FPGA validation, post-silicon bring-up, silicon debug, ASIC verification or validation.
• Skilled in Python, Perl, Shell or similar scripting, with strong debugging and problem-solving ability.
• Preferred: a master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: experience with SSD controller firmware architecture, NAND flash, enterprise SSDs and storage optimization.
• Preferred: experience with ARC-based SoC firmware development, protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, FPGA prototyping and post-silicon debug tools.
• Preferred: a record of leading validation programs for complex ASIC or storage controller products through production and customer support.
• Preferred: experience using AI tools such as Claude Code to build or verify code and make validation more efficient through automated workflows.

Conditions

This is a full-time role with a US base salary range estimated at $204,000.00 to $347,000.00 per year.

Pay within that range depends on location, level, knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training, and the range may change with business needs.
