Description

The company builds identity management and data protection solutions that sit at the center of digital security. Banks and governments depend on it to keep trust in the huge number of digital interactions people have every day.

Its technology helps banks move funds, lets people cross borders, and makes energy networks smarter. More than 30,000 organizations use it to verify the identities of people and things, control access to digital services, analyze large data sets, and encrypt data.

The Czech team in Prague has over 400 people from 45 nationalities, organized into 15 teams. They work on projects for government agencies, banks, mobile services, and Internet of Things (IoT) products.

The company's core business is software that gets configured and embedded in many kinds of devices, such as payment cards, SIM cards, travel passes, secure eBanking devices, authentication tokens, machine identification modules (MIM), ePassports, eID and eHealth cards, and eDriving licenses. English is the official corporate language.

The company has 80,000 employees in 68 countries.

You will work on a product in the cybersecurity and identity space, where you build the software and also run it in production, and where you work closely with Product rather than taking tickets.

Hiring steps: an intro call to check mutual fit and expectations; a technical conversation on real backend engineering with a practical exercise and a deep-dive discussion, designed to be relevant rather than puzzle-based; and a final conversation with the team and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver backend services in which security, correctness, and maintainability come first.
  • Turn vague, high-impact problems into a clear plan, then ship in small iterations.
  • Work closely with Product to build solutions that are technically sound and suited to the user.
  • Improve platform-wide concerns such as reliability, observability, performance, developer experience, and safe deployments.
  • Raise the quality bar through careful code reviews, practical architecture choices, and sharing what you know.
  • The stack is Java (latest LTS) and Spring Framework (latest), with Kubernetes, Helm, Skaffold, GitOps, and AWS. CI/CD runs with extensive automated testing, and the team automates build, deploy, and operations.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Deep Java expertise and solid hands-on experience with Spring.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • You can take a large, unclear problem, reduce its risk, and drive it to completion, bringing in others when needed.
  • You challenge weak solutions, do more than the bare minimum, and care about long-term quality.
  • You prefer clear goals but can work without full clarity.
  • You focus on results rather than activity.
  • You like improving shared foundations such as the platform, tooling, and patterns, not only your own service.
  • Nice to have: AuthN/AuthZ flows (OIDC, OAuth2, MFA, WebAuthn, SAML, SCIM).
  • Nice to have: interest in CIAM/IAM concepts such as consent, identity lifecycle, federation, credential management, RBAC, and token-based security.
  • Nice to have: experience with distributed or event-driven systems where scale, availability, and consistency matter.
  • Nice to have: observability and performance tuning, including metrics, tracing, JVM optimization, and load testing.
  • Nice to have: cryptography fundamentals such as key management, secure hashing, TLS, and JWT signing.
  • Nice to have: multi-tenant architectures, data isolation, and secure configuration management.
  • Nice to have: infrastructure as code and DevOps with Terraform, CloudFormation, or GitOps workflows.
  • Nice to have: a balanced testing approach with contract tests, integration-first testing, minimal mocking, and maintainable test suites.
  • No need to have every nice-to-have yet. Curiosity and willingness to learn count for more, and experienced engineers will help you grow through hands-on work.

Conditions

You will build and run secure, modern backend systems used by millions of people.

The team stays on the newest Java LTS and the newest Spring Framework, because security demands it.

Testing favors confidence over coverage: integration tests where they matter, minimal mocking, and tests that catch real problems.

CI/CD uses automated pipelines, several test layers, fast feedback, and high-signal results.

The team deploys to production itself and owns the full lifecycle.

The company backs an AI engineering initiative with tooling, guidelines, and people who drive adoption.

Engineers are expected to speak up, challenge solutions, and improve the platform, including beyond their own team.

The role is based in Prague.

Benefits

  • Work on high-impact problems in a security domain that matters.
  • Free access to Udemy courses.
  • Mentoring, onboarding, and a setting where learning is expected and supported.
  • Internal mobility, with opportunities to develop a career at home or abroad in your current field or a new one.
