Description

The company serves the US federal government, helping agencies in defense, national security, public safety, civilian, and military health work better and deliver for their missions.

The company is a technology firm with a collaborative culture where people are supported to learn, grow, and build skills through hands-on work, certifications, and industry training.

The team is building and automating cloud infrastructure in a DevSecOps environment, with a focus on secure, scalable, and highly available platforms.

This is a senior role where you will be an expert in cloud and DevSecOps, giving development teams a secure, scalable, self-service cloud platform built on Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure environments, mainly on AWS, following frameworks such as the Well-Architected framework.
  • Set up and run core AWS services, including networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Route53), compute (EC2, Lambda), storage (S3, EBS), and databases (RDS).
  • Design immutable infrastructure.
  • Build and run containerized workloads on Kubernetes, covering cluster management, scaling, and security.
  • Manage AWS IAM roles, policies, and permissions, applying least privilege.
  • Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption with Terraform, automating cloud resource provisioning and management.
  • Build and refine CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable software delivery, with security practices built into the platform and pipelines.
  • Write automation scripts and tooling in Python, Go, or Bash to streamline operations and remove manual work, with a strong emphasis on APIs.
  • Advise development teams as the subject matter expert so they get the most from the platform.
  • Work with stakeholders to assess new cloud-native technologies and recommend those that improve efficiency and capability.
  • Promote core practices such as Git workflows and effective use of AI tools to speed up development and problem-solving.
  • Break large projects into manageable tasks for junior staff.

Requirements

  • Hold and maintain DoD 8570/8140 certifications.
  • Have 8 years of experience in the areas below, plus a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Advanced skill with Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform or similar languages, including advanced techniques such as targeted applies and imports.
  • Hands-on depth with Kubernetes and Docker for container orchestration.
  • Thorough knowledge of AWS IAM roles, policies, and security best practices.
  • Proven record of designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines, such as GitLab CI or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking, Linux or Unix administration, and security principles.
  • Proficiency with Git and modern GitOps workflows.
  • Preferred: experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Preferred: familiarity with other public clouds, such as Azure or GCP.
  • Preferred: proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Preferred: understanding of authentication mechanisms such as OIDC, OAuth2, LDAP, and SAML.
  • Preferred: experience contributing to open-source projects.
  • Preferred: one or more of the following certifications: AWS Solutions Architect - Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate or Professional, Security+.
