Description

The company's Defense Engines and Services group supplies combat and trainer engines, rotorcraft and turboprop engines, mobility engines for tankers and transport aircraft, and marine gas turbines to the U.S. Armed Forces and allied nations.

The group designs, builds and assembles the engines that the military relies on, and supports about 30,000 engines already in the field.

As Lead Engineer, you will direct Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) work on programs, meeting assigned goals in a Lean setting. You will guide others through every stage of on-board and on-ground PHM hardware and software that collects, sends and processes engine data, from requirements through design, build, testing and certification. You will work with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and industrial and academic partners, and your decisions will affect short-term and long-term business results.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, deliver and maintain PHM hardware and software for both on-board embedded systems and ground platforms, owning each stage from requirements analysis through documentation, implementation and testing.
  • Design and maintain hardware and software that gathers data from on-wing embedded systems and passes it to other onboard systems and to the ground.
  • Build ground platforms that process data, run reasoning tools and can grow over time.
  • Write PHM system requirements and map the end-to-end data flow of each program. Define, create and maintain message specifications and develop subsystem diagnostics.
  • Coordinate integration work with internal controls, software and systems teams, and with airframers, suppliers and customers. Support system integration testing, on-site customer testing, and engine certification to DO-178C.
  • Provide PHM integration support for fielded product lines and for major upgrades.
  • Set PHM priorities across business functions using input from several stakeholders. Manage the budget, resources and schedule for your assigned work, clear blockers, and help team members meet their deadlines.
  • Use your PHM expertise to shape strategy, resource decisions and policy for your area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) from an accredited university or college, ideally in engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in PHM, software, controls, or systems engineering.
  • Preferred: Active Secret U.S. government security clearance.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of PHM system definition, PHM data architecture, subsystem diagnostics, and creating and using message specifications.
  • Preferred: Understanding of both on-board and on-ground PHM development, including embedded PHM software and onboard data infrastructure.
  • Preferred: Skill in C for embedded software, with familiarity with MISRA-C guidelines.
  • Preferred: Skill in Python and modeling tools such as MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Preferred: Experience with, or exposure to, engine certification under DO-178C.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with test certification and qualification, internal and external integration, and PHM infrastructure and operations.
  • Preferred: Experience with configuration management and change control.
  • Preferred: Prior work on aircraft engines or in aerospace, including engine testing on a rig or aircraft.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to lead process or team initiatives, programs or projects.
  • Preferred: Strong project management skills, including documenting, planning, promoting and running programs.
  • Preferred: Experience using systems thinking to rank PHM work against competing stakeholder needs.
  • Preferred: Ability to perform well under pressure in environments that move quickly, and to adapt to new settings and shifting requirements.
  • Preferred: Willingness to own assigned deliverables independently, including breaking problems down and estimating development time.
  • Preferred: Proven record of analysing and resolving problems with close attention to detail and accuracy.

Conditions

The role requires maintaining a U.S. government security clearance. U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite for that clearance, and candidates who already hold one will be given preference.

The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information, so you must show U.S. person status as a U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or someone granted asylee or refugee status under the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

The company only hires people who are legally authorised to work in the United States for this position.

Any offer is conditional on passing a drug screen where applicable. Employees may also be subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol tests.
