Description

The company is a game studio in Brisbane, part of a global group, that has been operating since 2014.

It is the largest video game studio in Queensland, with more than 130 people across programming, art, design, production, QA, audio, marketing, administration and management.

The studio is building a new interactive experience based on one of Australia's best-known children's properties, and is also developing unannounced projects.

You would join the team on an upcoming project as a narrative designer and scriptwriter, working on a role that combines story design and writing for an established IP.

Hiring has three steps: a qualification call with recruiters, an interview with the Design Director, and a third stage that is still to be confirmed.

Responsibilities

  • Study the existing IP and its characters closely enough that all dialogue and lore stays true to them, and keep in touch with IP stakeholders to stay aligned.
  • Write dialogue, cinematic scripts and ambient world barks that move the plot forward and make the environment feel alive.
  • Work with game and quest designers to turn story beats into playable moments, so the narrative improves gameplay and the reverse.
  • Design narrative structures, branching dialogue and story arcs that respond to player choices.
  • Put dialogue, script events and environmental storytelling into the game using the studio's tools and Unreal Engine.
  • Write lore entries, item descriptions and environmental clues that reward players who explore.
  • Work with audio leads and voice actors so the written lines carry the intended emotion in performance.
  • Playtest and review builds, turn feedback from playtests and stakeholders into revised scripts quickly, and keep the story central to the player experience while respecting IP limits.

Requirements

  • A portfolio showing you can write in different tones and personas, including writing in character for established IPs.
  • At least 4 years of game design experience, focused on how narrative connects with systems, quests and world-building.
  • Proven work on existing intellectual properties and a record of collaborating with external stakeholders or brand owners.
  • A clear grasp of how cinematic writing differs from game writing, including dialogue that works during active play.
  • A professional attitude to criticism, able to take complex stakeholder feedback and improve the narrative without ego.
  • A lasting passion for games, literature and film, and a forward-looking view of interactive storytelling.
  • Bonus: experience implementing narrative content or scripting in Unreal Engine.
