Description

The New York City Comptroller's Office is an independently elected office that checks how the city spends money, invests, runs its operations, and keeps its promises, with the aim of building a fairer, more resilient city.

The Communications Team shares the office's work through plain-language updates, multimedia content, press and public relations, and policy conversations at both local and national levels.

This is the Communications Officer role, position code 95998, reporting to the Creative Director. You will turn policy and data into clear, accessible visuals for print, web, and digital channels, working with writers, policy analysts, and digital strategists. The role suits someone who knows graphic design and web production well, works well in a busy public-sector setting, and wants government information to reach more people.

Responsibilities

  • Design reports, infographics, social media graphics, event materials, and data visualizations for both print and digital use.
  • Make animations and motion graphics for social channels, presentations, and online campaigns.
  • Build and update web pages in WordPress and other digital publishing tools.
  • Lay out and assemble brochures, flyers, fact sheets, and other materials for office events and initiatives.
  • Apply the office's visual style guide across every medium so the brand stays consistent.
  • Work with Communications Team members to plan, script, and shape policy and data into visual formats that suit different audiences.
  • Keep up with new design and animation tools and help assess which ones the office should adopt.
  • Take on other assignments and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and at least 4 years of satisfactory full-time experience in multimedia design, communications, video production, social media management, journalism, or a closely related field.
  • Or education and/or experience that is equivalent to the requirement above.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer that works to keep the workplace free of discrimination and harassment based on any legally protected status or characteristic.
