Description

Through the Military DoD SkillBridge program, service members in their final 180 days can take part in industry training, apprenticeships, or internships that build civilian work experience, under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29.

Up to 180 days of permissive duty can be granted so the service member trains full time with an approved industry partner, once the unit commander (the first O-4 or Field Grade commander in the chain of command) gives written authorization and approval.

The company can assess whether a participant suits the work while providing real-world training in high-demand fields.

SkillBridge participants receive no pay from the company, because they keep their military compensation and benefits as active-duty members.

People with military experience in aviation maintenance, propulsion, operational analysis, fleet readiness, or engineering support are considered a strong fit for this role.

The Mission Analysis team sets and analyzes the operating conditions for all of the company's products. The role has moderate autonomy and calls for strong operational judgment, with professional practices, policies, and teamwork providing guidance and structure.

Responsibilities

  • Set the operating conditions for new product introduction programs and fielded programs so they match intended engine operation, working with external and internal customers, Systems, Performance, and Controls.
  • Produce the files that feed performance, thermal, and stress analysis models.
  • Review engine statistics and field data to find outliers and trends.
  • Write documentation of field usage trends for external customers and provide agency information for the existing fleet.
  • Recommend to Life Management when Life Limited Part life limit bases should be updated.
  • Improve how field data is processed, build representative mission profiles for detailed component analysis, and automate work to raise efficiency, standardization, and communication.
  • Carry out design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and the company's standards, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Build deep knowledge of your discipline, act as a best-practice and quality resource, and track the latest technical developments in your area.
  • Contribute to strategy and policy development and make sure work in your area is delivered.
  • Understand how your area connects to others and the main competitors and what sets them apart.
  • Use judgment and data analysis to solve moderately complex problems, drawing on internal sources and a limited number of external ones.
  • Guide less experienced colleagues, lead small projects with moderate risk and resources, explain sensitive information, and build consensus.
  • Serve as an interface point to build strong internal and external customer relationships.

Requirements

  • Be on active military service with no more than 180 days remaining.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Have at least 5 years of engineering experience, preferably with jet aircraft, aeroderivatives, or jet engines.
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance if requested; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite for clearance.
  • Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required, so you must prove U.S. Person status as a U.S. lawful permanent resident, a U.S. citizen, or a person granted asylee or refugee status (a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
  • Desired: strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Desired: strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Desired: proven ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Desired: proven ability to lead programs and projects.
  • Desired: ability to document, plan, market, and carry out programs.

  • Desired: experience in engineering, aircraft, or engine environments.
  • Desired: effective work with cross-functional teams.
  • Desired: knowledge of statistics and tools for handling large data sets.
