Description

The company builds mission-enabling systems for global security, and the Engineering and Sciences group designs, produces and sustains product lines for defense customers.

The company is hiring a manager for its SEIT organization in Rolling Meadows, IL, to lead a team of SEIT engineers in the SEIT Targeting Department.

The role splits time between the team: about 20% on functional management of a group of 10 to 15 systems engineers and about 80% on hands-on program work.

You would likely take on SEIT Lead or Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead duties on a restricted program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional oversight for SEIT engineers across follow-on contracts, new business, internal research and development, and capital projects.
  • Make sure SEIT processes are followed and oversee cost, schedule and technical quality on supported programs, including functional reviews for milestones such as SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR, and for proposals where applicable.
  • Forecast staffing and workload, mentor and develop staff, plan training for program skills, and run performance reviews and other functional management processes.
  • Recruit new talent to meet staffing commitments.
  • Drive adoption of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), Product Line Architecture (PLA) and Agile to give customers a competitive edge.
  • As SEIT or IPT Lead, lead systems engineering work on architecture, requirements, hardware and software design, verification and validation, and production support.
  • Confirm the program follows sound engineering practice from development through sustainment and meets company policy, procedures and quality standards.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in an engineering or technical field and at least 8 years of experience, or a Master of Science in an engineering or technical field and at least 6 years of experience.
  • Proven leadership and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong technical problem solving, including decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of cost and schedule management tools and methods, especially Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance, and to obtain and maintain any additional clearance the customer specifies.
  • Preferred: a Master's degree in a relevant technical or management field.
  • Preferred: an active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Preferred: at least 5 years of related engineering experience at a defense contractor during EMD and/or LRIP phases.
  • Preferred: experience managing teams in systems engineering, integration and test.
  • Preferred: experience developing and managing EVM cost accounts and schedules.
  • Preferred: experience in systems engineering, integration and test on complex projects involving hardware, software and firmware.
  • Preferred: experience with electronic warfare, EO/IR, laser or related defense systems.
  • Preferred: experience across the engineering lifecycle, from proposals and requirements analysis through verification testing and fielding.
  • Preferred: proficiency in MS Project, MS Office, MATLAB, Simulink, Cameo, MBSE and Agile.
